Elementary School Librarian/Media Specialist
Parents: It is my pleasure to begin my twenty fifth year at St. Catherine School as Librarian/Media Specialist. As technology develops and becomes more available due to Mr. Lonneman’s persistent guidance, the library has truly becoming a resource center. The library circulation and cataloging systems have been computerized for several years. Computers for keyboarding practice, for internet access and for catalogue searches are also available.
Book selection and checking out, library skills classes and assistance with the Accelerated Reading Reading Incentive Program will be included in the Library times. Stories, poetry, articles, etc. will be read to students weekly for K-2.
Checking out and reading library books is essential to our educational program. You can enhance your child’s education by taking interest in his or her reading materials. Read with your child regularly; discuss his or her reading selections. – “Series” books are often great fun, but an occasional change is recommended. Students in grades K-1 will check out one library book per week; grade 2 – two books; grades 3-8 – a limit of 3 books. Library books are due each week; please remind your students to return their library books each week. (Organization skills! – We suggest that library books be kept in backpacks when not in use.) Monthly reminders for overdue materials are sent to the classrooms. There will be notices in the Scoop regarding library activities.
Donated books for the library are always appreciated. A child’s birthday, a special holiday or family event, even an outstanding report card is a suitable occasion to donate a book to the library in your child’s or your family’s name. If you need a suggestion, ask your student. They all know what they like to read! .
