JUNIOR HIGH SERVICE HOUR PROGRAM

Click here for verification form (word format).

Community service is a responsibility of faith in action that comes from our Christian identity.  Therefore, all junior high students are required to complete a specific amount of community service hours during the school year, dependent upon grade level.  Since we are members of different communities, service hours can be done within social organizations, parishes, or the school according to the following guidelines.

Organizations:  All hours from an official community or social service organization will be counted as fulfilling the service requirement.  A list of such organizations along with contact information and descriptions of service will be made available to all students.

Parish:  Service to the parish is that service which goes beyond our regular responsibilities to keep holy the Sabbath and beyond those that come with the development of our faith lives.  As such, participation in Liturgy as server, lector, Eucharistic minister, or choir member do not count for service hours.  Additional parish activities including serving at the Festival or teaching Religious Education will count for service hours.

School:  Like with service to the parish, service to the school must go beyond the regular responsibilities of being a member of the school community or a school sponsored club or sport.  Service that is required of a member of a club will not count for the school’s service requirement.  Additional service, done on a voluntary basis, beyond membership requirements can count.

Home:  Most service done for one's family is a responsibility that comes with being a member of a family. These hours must be things above and beyond this responsibility. Check with the junior high religion teacher if you are uncertain whether an activity would qualify.

In recognition of the necessity of growth of our spheres of concern and spheres of influence as we mature, the percentage of hours done in each sphere will progress accordingly.

8th Grade - 60 hours (20 School/Parish, 20 Community, 20 Home)

7th Grade - 30 hours (10 School/Parish, 10 Community, 10 Home)

6th Grade - 15 hours (5 School/Parish, 5 Community, 5 Home)

SERVICE HOURS WILL BE COLLECTED AND TRACKED IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE..

Below is a list of service possibilities along with the contact person for the organization. Remember in dealing with them to be respectful and representative of St. Catherine School. Click on the links below for description and contact information.
