Below are the Content Area Curriculums that were created by the Diocese of Covington. They are aligned to the Program of Studies for the state of Kentucky and national guidelines. They represent some, but not all, of what is taught in the classroom. Religion is taught on a daily basis and follows the Diocesan Religion Curriculum. Currently this document is not available as an electronic file. It is available for viewing in the school office. In addition to the specific content taught in Religion class, religion is incorporated into every aspect of the school day when applicable. Art and Music, along with Spanish, Physical Education, and Computers are taught as Exploratory classes once a week and are meant to give students a basic understanding and appreciation of the subject. For more information on these subjects, contact the school office or the content area teacher.

St. Catherine Writing Manual (Word format)  (.pdf format)

Below you will find the Syllabus for each grade level content area (Many of these pages are still under construction and may not be hyperlinked at this time). They show how the teacher incorporates the curriculum into their class over the course of an entire school year. They also include information on how the content is taught and assessed. These are working documents and meant to give a general idea of what is going on in the classroom. The amount of time spent, the activity, and the assessment could be different as the teacher adjusts the syllabus to meet the needs of their students.

PRIMARY GRADES

All of our primary grades are self contained classes that are taught by a single teacher. Because of this, each grade will contain a 36 week syllabus that includes all of the content areas taught each week. Since assessment is often done on an individual bases to test mastery of a particular piece of information, units may not contain specific ways of testing the children.

MIDDLE GRADES

In the middle grades, students begin to transition to more formal learning. Lessons are more structured and knowledge learned in the primary grades begin to be applied. With the increased levels of knowledge, teachers begin to be more specialized teaching both years of a subject to students. The syllabuses below are broken into not only grade levels, but specific content areas. They are broken into 9 week segments to represent knowledge learned each quarter. Units are listed along with the amount of time they take, the activity they will be doing to apply the knowledge and assessments to determine mastery. Again, these are meant as an overview and change based on how the class is progressing.

JUNIOR HIGH

In junior high, students are once again making a transition to prepare them for high school. Lessons are very structured and taught by individual content area specialist. Each teacher is certified in their particular subject area and teaches one 6th, 7th, and 8th grade class in that subject. Students switch classes throughout the day and travel to the subject area teacher. Like the middle grades, the syllabuses are subject specific and contain the content, activity and assessment for each unit.
