CATHERINE OF
LITURGY
AND SPIRITUAL LIFE
COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
Present: Fr. Stef Bankemper,

Ann Metzner, Alison Schwalbach
I. Opening prayer was led by
Fr. Stef.
II. Educational Component- the committee will read the first two chapters of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy
(Sacrosanctum Concilium). Fr. Stef assured us that this foundational document, the first one promulgated after the
Second Vatican Council, is very
accessible.
III. Liturgy
A. Evaluation
of Past Liturgies
1. Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ on June 6th-
Adoration
could have been longer.
B. Future
Liturgies
1. 2010 Calendar- This is available online and will continue to be updated. Also, looking at the
calendar before our next meeting will help with our planning.
2. Time change for Friday Mass- Friday Mass will be
celebrated at
3. Catechetical Sunday, August 22nd and reception- Kim Lampe will contact the PTO to see who
.
handles
the reception. No pews will be reserved so catechists can sit with their
families.
4. Mass for Peace and Justice on Sept. 11th- This will be celebrated in our diocese. Petition writers and
lectors will need to be notified as the
readings will not follow ordinary
time.
5. Pro-Life Mass on Tuesday, Oct. 5th at the Cathedral- Judy Leick will arrange for a bus to leave
St. Catherine’s at
6. Our Lady of the Rosary on Thursday, Oct. 7th- Fr. Stef will talk to Doug Lonneman to arrange for
the school to participate in this feast day. The rosary will be prayed after the
will see if Paul Meisenhelder wants to switch to Thursday for the Rosary Prayer
Group.
7. Training and commissioning for liturgical ministers- Classes are filling up quickly. Teresa Shaefer
will
send out a reminder e-mail and offer car-pooling.
8. Bereavement protocol- Currently Mary Brown, Judy Leick and Pat Brennan help the families plan
the liturgy. A decision was made to find a fourth person to help with this ministry. Teresa Shaefer
calls Carol Adams, who contacts whoever is next on the list. It would be helpful for Teresa to contact
Denise Dirkes to find out if she is available so that this information could be passed on to the
liturgist. Once the funeral is planned, the liturgist should let Teresa know if servers, lectors or
musicians are needed. Funerals scheduled during school are always at 11:00 to facilitate use of
McCrystal Hall. If the family wishes to have the reception elsewhere, we could offer to provide the
food for the reception. The family would need to pick up the food at St. Catherine’s.
9. Children’s Liturgy of the Word- This begins on Sept. 12th. An e-mail could be sent out to promote
this
ministry.
10. Icon in the back of church- This will remain on display until Advent.
11. Placement of the Ciborium during Communion- It was suggested that the server could take
the
Ciborium to the Tabernacle.
12. Advent booklet- Kim will find out if Caroline Kaelin is willing to
work on this again.
13. Lessons and Carols- This will be Wednesday, Dec. 1st.
IV. Spiritual Life- Lenten
Mission/Retreat
Deacon Ralph Poyo will speak at all Masses the
weekend of January 23rd

the 24th through the 26th. We are discerning the theme of the
mission and will find out if he will also speak
to the school.
