is extended to the family and friends of Eileen Ruwe, whose funeral
was held here last week. Please
remember her and the Ruwe family in your prayers.
PARISH CENSUS
How many Catholics live in our parish and where? No one knows for
sure, so Bishop Roger Foys has called for a census including every residence in
our parish. (The diocesan newspaper the Messenger has more details, available online at
www.covingtondiocese.org.) Our
parish needs volunteers to lead the effort in our parish and do the actual home
visits on Census Sundays, October 16 and October 23 (with any needed follow-up
during the week). Bishop Foys will use the data to make some decisions about how
best to serve the needs of Catholics in our area. Look for more details in
future bulletins and Messengers, and let your friends and neighbors know
what’s happening and why on October 16. For more information contact Jim
Stegman at 441-3561.
IN CASE YOU WERE
WONDERING If
you are wondering where our pastor has been, he has been on vacation and will be
returning for 4:30 mass on Saturday, August 13th.
Please pray that he has a restful time away and returns to us safely.
EUCHARISTIC
ADORATION We are in need
of volunteers for adoration on Tuesdays. There
are some slots between 1:30 - 3:30 that need to be filled. If you can’t come
for an hour, 30 minutes would be great. If
you are interested and able you can sign up on the sheet that is posted in the
center aisle every Tuesday during adoration.
Please call Cathy Henry at 781-1815 with any questions.
NEW LECTORS AND

NEED SERVICE HOURS? Volunteers
are needed to weed some property along the river in Melbourne that belongs to
the sisters of St. Anne’s convent. They
are going to be doing the work on Tuesday, August 16th from 9:00 a.m.
– noon. After that, they are going
to grill out for lunch. The group from the Giving Fields will be overseeing the
work. If you are interested in
volunteering, please call the parish office at 441-1352.
THE GIVING FIELDS
is a community farm in Melbourne that has been started to provide
fresh produce for local soup kitchens and church and emergency food
pantries in Northern Kentucky. Volunteers
are now needed to harvest produce for the Rose Garden Mission. This is a great
opportunity for families or other groups to participate in a hands-on activity
to help alleviate hunger in our community. If you would like to
volunteer, please call Sheila Carroll at 491-8771.

IMPLEMENTATION
The
Kyrie Eleison
“God has
made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified” (Acts
2:36).
The Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy) is a litany addressed to the risen
and
ascended
Jesus. Acclaiming him as both Lord and Christ, we implore his mercy. Though
often
prayed in English, the Kyrie Eleison may also be sung or recited in the
original
Greek,
the only bit of Greek to have survived in our Mass of the Roman Rite. The Kyrie
Eleison
is a cherished reminder
of the prayer of the Eastern Churches who in their
liturgies
ceaselessly call down the mercy of Christ.
The Kyrie
Eleison may be sung by the people responding to a cantor, or by the
people
responding to a choir. Over the centuries it has been clothed in every variety
of
musical
vesture. Some of these melodies emerge from the depths of a great sorrow;
others
express a quiet repentance and hope; still others soar ecstatically in praise of
Christ’s
triumph over sin and death. “Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have
mercy.”
A prayer for all times and places. Even the simplest chant can serve to fix it
in
the
heart.
