BEING ACCEPTED FOR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School will be held August 1st - 5th from 9:00a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Registration forms are now available in the Parish Office and in the back of
church. Please send in the completed form along with payment to Parish Office by
July 15th. Also, we
are in need of adult volunteers & student volunteers (grades 7-12) to
help with VBS. If you or your child
is able to help, please e-mail Keith Morgeson at kmorgeson@stcatherineofsiena.org.
We look forward to a great time this summer at VBS!
CCD TEACHERS
are
needed for the 2011-2012 school year. We are in search of teachers for the
4th and 6th grade. Please pray about this and
if you feel this is something God is calling you to help with or if you just
want more information about what is involved, please contact Keith Morgeson
at kmorgeson@stcatherineofsiena.org.
The diocese requires that applicants be Virtus trained and be willing to
work on teaching certification for religious education teachers. We appreciate
your support of the St. Catherine of Siena CCD Program!
DID YOU MISS GETTING YOUR FAMILY
PORTRAIT TAKEN? If
you did, here’s another opportunity for you.
We have made arrangements with Olan Mills to come back for two more days
to photograph any families who have not yet had their directory picture taken.
A photographer will be here in McCrystal Hall on Tuesday, July 5th & Wednesday, July 6th from
2:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. You can schedule your photography session by going
to https://signup.olanmills.com/familyinfo.aspx?chcontract=60596.
If you do not have internet access, please call Olan Mills at
(800)866-2263 and they will help you schedule your appointment.
Father Stef asks that all families please be photographed, as a
pictorial directory is a great way for all parishioners to get to know each
other.
SAFE ENVIRONMENT (VIRTUS)
Please be aware that if you wish to participate in parish and school
activities that involve the presence of children, you need to be trained and in
compliance with the safe environment program in the Diocese.
If you haven’t registered for this program but would like to volunteer
for school and/or parish events, please contact the parish office.
If you are already participating in the program, be sure to keep up with
your monthly bulletins. The June
bulletin is now posted and is due by July 5th.
ST. BERNARD PANTRY
Items being collected for
the pantry over the summer are: pasta
sauce, peanut butter and tuna. You
can drop off your donation in the back of church or in the parish office.
Thank you to all those who continue to support this mission and help us
to “Feed God’s Children”.

TRAINING FOR
MINISTERS AND LECTORS There
will be a Diocesan Education Session for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion and Lectors on Monday, August
22nd at St. Paul Church (Florence) from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
If you have not yet attended a training session but would like to serve
in either one of these ministries, please contact the parish office, 441-1352,
to be put on the list that will be submitted to the diocese.
It will be posted in the bulletin when the online registration for the
session is open. Please note that
calling the parish office does not register you for the training session – it
only notifies the parish of your interest in the ministry. You will still have
to go online to register for the training session.
The
Entrance
“To you, O
God, I lift up my soul” (Psalm 24:1; Entrance Chant of the First
Sunday
of Advent). The
Entrance Chant is like a door opening onto the Mystery. It
begins
as the priest and other ministers enter the church. The Entrance Chant sets the
celebration
of Mass in motion; it fosters unity; it expresses something of the feast or
season
being celebrated. The Entrance Chant accompanies the procession of the priest
and
ministers into the sanctuary and ends when the priest arrives at the chair.
The choice of
the Entrance Chant is determined by the General Instruction of the
Roman
Missal. It may be the
antiphon and psalm given in one of three official liturgical
books:
the Roman Gradual, the Roman Missal, or the Simple Gradual.
The Entrance
Chant
may also be an antiphon and psalm from another source, or even a suitable
liturgical
song, provided that these have been approved by the Conference of Bishops or
the
diocesan bishop (GIRM, art. 48).
Apart from a
very few exceptions, the Entrance Chants of the Mass are drawn
from
the Bible, usually from the Book of Psalms. It is significant that Mass opens
with
God’s
word addressed to us. Already in the Entrance Chant it is God who comes out to
meet
us.
