IN OUR PARISH

May the Solemnity of Easter and the Easter season be for you and your loved ones a source of every hope and consolation. The power of sin and death cannot prevail. The resurrection of the Lord remains the cause of our joy and peace.  Wishing you a blessed and holy Easter.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY    is extended to the family and friends of Pat Frost, who was buried from our parish last week.  Please keep Pat and her family in your prayers.

DIVINE MERCY      The Divine Mercy Chaplets and Novena are the devotional fruits born out of the Divine Mercy revelations given to St. Faustina from our Lord. We are inviting you to join in the Divine Mercy Novena starting on Good Friday and continuing every day following daily mass until Divine Mercy Sunday on May 1st  (except for Easter Sunday and Monday which will be said independently). This is a very short devotional (5-8 minutes), pamphlets will be available.

PTO Annual Flower Sale   The Annual Flower Sale is coming up quickly!  Are you ready for the April showers to pass and move on to the May flowers? Do you still need to prepare your yard for a  First Communion Party?  It is a perfect time to visit The Fort Thomas Florist and help support the St. Catherine PTO Flower Sale!  The sale will be held next Wednesday, April 27th from 1:30PM - 6PM and Friday, April 29th from 9AM- 1:30PM. Parish volunteers will be available to help you with the selection and assist you in your purchase.  Payments can be made by cash, check, charge, or House account at the time of purchase. The flowering basket sale will follow on Mother’s Day weekend after all three masses. Volunteers are still needed for both sales. Please contact Kelly Frost to volunteer or with inquiries at 859-835-4396 or kfrostky@fuse.net.

FIRST COMMUNION   The 2nd grade students of our parish will be receiving their First Communion next Sunday, May 1st at 2:00 p.m.  Please keep them in your prayers as they take this very important step in their faith journey.

MAY CROWNING    This year’s May Crowning will take place during the 6:30 p.m. mass on Wednesday, May 4th.   Our second grade children are asked to dress in their First Communion dresses/suits for this occasion.  If you wish to do so, please bring a small potted flower for the procession that will later be planted on the grounds.  Following the mass, there will be an ice cream social in McCrystal Hall sponsored by the Foresters.

THE STORY OF ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA      Sr. Nancy Murray, OP, is coming to our parish to bring to life our patron saint, Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the Church, on Friday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. With simple props and a fertile imagination, Sister Nancy portrays Catherine as the colorful, strong, passionate and enthusiastic personality that she was. Thanks to Sister Nancy's gift of transforming herself into this 14th century saint and patroness of the Dominican Order, Catherine's fierce devotion to and love for God is brought to life.  Sr. Nancy Murray is actor Bill Murray’s sister.  Clearly acting talent runs in the family.  Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about our incredible patroness in this entertaining way.  The event is free and open to the public.  No reservations will be taken and a free-will offering will be taken up.

DISCERNMENT     for members of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Board of Catholic Education begins this weekend.  As representative of the entire parish population, the Pastoral Council (PPC) acts as a consultative and advisory body to the pastor in making decisions for the benefit of the parish community. The Board of Catholic Education (BOCE) assists the pastor in promoting spiritual formation and Catholic education programs for all age groups. Members of each board are discerned through prayer and sacrifice and serve for a three year term.  Please read the parish guidebook and directory for more details. At this time we are asking parishioners to prayerfully consider their own response to serve one of these committees.  Boxes with paper are at the side entrances to the church.  Please volunteer yourself or suggest another parishioner who would be representative of our parish community.  Most importantly, pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit in our discernment process.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY     We have contracted with Olan Mills to create a parish pictorial directory.  They will be here photographing families May 11th – 14th, 18th – 21st, 27th and June 1st – 4th.  If you are unable to get on the stage, please schedule your appointment for May 27th or June 1st – 4th. You can schedule your photography session by going to https://signup.olanmills.com/familyinfo.aspx?chcontract=60596.  If you do not have internet access, please call the parish office and we will help you schedule your appointment.  Father Stef asks that all families please be photographed, as a pictorial directory is a great way for all parishioners to get to know each other.

St. Catherine’s Men’s Golf League   Come Join. Since 1968, your parish has provided an opportunity to play golf with fellow parishioners and friends. The league plays 9 holes at AJ Jolly every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month teeing off between 4 - 6 PM, starting April 26th through August. An annual end of the year outing on September 15th – 18th at Perry Park Ky is also available. The league is handicapped so everyone can participate on a level playing basis, regardless of ability. We also have a

sub list for those who may not be able to play every Tuesday, but may want to join in. Contact Kevin Johnson @ 441-8331 or email kjohnson1@fuse.net, for further information.

Market Day - It's not too late to place your order for the May 5 pickup!  You can still order at www.marketday.com until 11 pm on Saturday, April 30.  This is such a great fundraiser for our school.  Thanks to all of those who support us!

LITTLE WHITE BOOKS   for the Easter season are available in the back of church.

HOMILIES ON CD    Fr. Stef’s Lenten homilies are available on CD in the back of church.

RACHEL MUHA    The dvd’s from last month’s Praise & Worship speaker are now available for $10 in the parish office.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS   If you did not get your certificate of appointment from the diocese after you were commissioned, please pick it up from the sacristy before May 1st.

PRO LIFE FACT   Recent studies confirmed that that Planned Parenthood is increasingly shifting away from performing surgical abortions and instead using the dangerous RU486 abortion drug.  As of FDA figures from 2006, this drug has been responsible for killing at least 13 women worldwide and injuring 1,100 in the U.S. alone.

MAINTENANCE POSITION AVAILABLE      There will be a part-time opening in the maintenance   department during the summer.  The position will require 24 hrs. per week and duties will include cleaning, finishing floors, painting, as well as other miscellaneous jobs. This would be great for college student.   If you or someone you know are interested, please contact Dennis Kramer at 441-1352, extension 17.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR THE UPCOMING CHANGE IN THE ROMAN MISSAL   Each week there will be an article relating to the upcoming changes in the Roman Missal.  (Some of them may be run more than once and they may not follow the Order of Mass.)

The Breaking of the Bread

“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of

the one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:17). There was something unforgettable in the way

Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper and again for the disciples encountered on the

road to Emmaus. “He was known to them in the breaking of the bread” (Luke 14:35).

The Bread of Life is broken to be given to the many, bringing into the unity of a single

body all who receive it.

The priest breaks a piece from the host and puts it into the chalice to signify that

in Holy Communion we receive Christ’s living and glorious Body. He begins the

breaking of the Bread after the sign of peace and carries it out with reverence. “This rite

is reserved to the priest and the deacon” (GIRM, art. 83). Even after the breaking, each

fragment of the Eucharistic Bread is the whole Christ.

During the breaking of the Bread, the choir or cantor sing the supplication to the

Lamb of God, the Agnus Dei, to which the people respond. The invocation may be

repeated until the rite is completed. At the last repetition the people respond, “grant us

peace.”
