IN OUR PARISH

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY   is extended to the family and friends of Ralph Hamberg, whose funeral was held here last weekend.  Please remember Ralph and his family in your prayers.

ARE YOU STRESSED?  The Health Ministry will screen blood pressure in the usher's room after all masses.  Look for the brochures at the side entrances to church for information on stress.

CATHOLICS IN ACTION     St. Catherine Parish Council is forming a “Catholics in Action” group which will be similar to our former Social Concerns group.  If you think you would be interested in joining this ministry, there will be an informational meeting held on Monday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room.  Join us to see how we can put our faith into action in our community!

The St. Catherine Men's Group  Our next meeting is this Monday, March 7th at 8:00 pm in McCrystal Hall. Our meetings are open to all men of the parish age 21 or older. Come for some great company, for refreshments and snacks, and to help us plan for our March Madness pool (thanks, Ken Woltermann!), the next Cornhole/Euchre/Sports-on-the-Big-Screen event, and future speakers.  Our special guest will be Fr. Bob Rottgers, who will tell us about the new Life Teen Youth Group for high school students.

BURNING  OF THE PALMS       In preparation for Ash Wednesday, we will be holding the Burning of the Palms on Tuesday, March 8th, at 6:45 p.m. in front of church.  In order to do this, the normal Tuesday evening schedule will have some slight changes.  Confessions will be from 5:30 – 6:15 and Benediction will be at 6:30 p.m.  The rosary will stay at 7:00 p.m., following the burning.  Everyone is encouraged to attend!

LENT BEGINS THIS COMING WEDNESDAY   Ash Wednesday, March 9th, marks the beginning of the Lenten Season.  Mass will be held at 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.   Also, during Lent, Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.

LITTLE BLACK BOOKS     Booklets of daily Lenten devotions are available in the back of church.  Inside each book is a bookmark listing all of our Lenten events.  Please be sure to pick one up as you are leaving.

ALL DAY EXPOSITION    Beginning the first Tuesday in Lent, March 15th, and continuing through the Lenten season, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin immediately following 8:00 a.m. mass and end with Benediction at 6:45 p.m.   If you would like to sign up for a time, there will be a sign up sheet at the Rossford entrance. If you have any questions, call Cathy Henry at 781-1815.

PARISH TRAINING FOR EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION   For those unable to attend the first parish training session last month, there will be one last parish training session held next Sunday, March 13th immediately following 11:30 mass.  All ministers will be commissioned at the masses next weekend, so it is imperative that you either attended the training last month or you attend this one.  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Lampe at 441-9955.

SPRING IS COMING   and with it, the Catholic Order of Foresters 2nd Annual Spring Arts & Craft Show!  This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 19th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There will be more than 50 booths with products including handmade jewelry, clothing, wooden crafts, floral arrangements, candles, glass items and more.  Cloth shopping bag included with $2.00 admission.  All proceeds will benefit a St. Catherine Scholarship Fund for CCD, elementary school, high school and college students of St. Catherine.  Last year we were able to award 24 Scholarships! Over 50 crafters will be in the gym, library and meeting room. Come and help support St. Catherine Parish children by attending the craft show!

REMOVE THE CHAINS OF UNFORGIVENESS THIS LENT!    Is there anyone in your life that you have not forgiven?  In 1999 Rachel Muha witnessed a monumental collision of good and evil in which violent teens murdered her 18 year old son, a student at Franciscan University in Steubenville.  The story of the Muha family is not one of hatred, revenge and death.  It is one of love, forgiveness and life.  Only the God of mercy helped Rachel to shine grace in the darkest place where it seemed impossible for a mother to forgive.  Come hear Rachel’s supernatural story of forgiveness on Sunday, March 20th at 7pm , sponsored by St. Catherine’s Praise & Worship Series in conjunction with Northern Kentucky University ’s Newman Center .  Doors open at 6pm .  A free-will offering will be collected.  Call 859-441-3438 for more information.

CCD TEACHERS: needed for the 2011-2012 school year. The time for discernment is now. We are in search of teachers for the 4th & 6th grade classes and a co-teacher for the 5th grade. Interested persons must be active in their faith and ready to answer the call. The diocese requires applicants to be, or to become, Virtus trained and willing to begin work on teaching certification for religious education teachers. Contact Keith Morgeson at kmorgeson@stcatherineofsiena.org with your willingness to serve in this ministry.

MAINTENANCE POSITION AVAILABLE      There will be a part-time opening in the maintenance   department during the summer.  The position will require 24 hrs. per week and duties will include cleaning, finishing floors, painting, as well as other miscellaneous jobs. This would be great for college student.   If you or someone you know are interested, please contact Dennis Kramer at 441-1352, extension 17.

PARISH MISSION CD’S   Deacon Poyo’s homily and all 4 mission talks are now available on CD in the parish office.  There is no set charge for them, we are simply asking for a goodwill offering which will be sent to Deacon Poyo.   Please remember to keep him and his ministry in your prayers.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR THE UPCOMING CHANGE IN THE ROMAN MISSAL   Each week there will be an article relating to the upcoming changes in the Roman Missal.  (Some of them may be run more than once and they may not follow the Order of Mass.)

The Profession of Faith

“Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion” (1 Timothy 3:16 ). In the Profession of Faith or Creed we respond to the Word of God proclaimed in the readings and explained in the homily. The Creed is a synthesis of what the Church believes and teaches, a glorious summary of the deeds and promises of God. When, on Sundays and solemnities, we sing or recite the Creed, we praise “the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God” (Romans 11:33) and, at the same time declare our

resolve to “guard what has been entrusted to us” (cf. 1 Timothy 6:20 ).

We stand during the Creed: the uprightness of our bodies depicts the uprightness of the faith. At the words, “by the Holy Spirit became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made man,” all make a profound bow in adoration of so awesome a mystery. At the same words on Christmas and on March 25th, Solemnity of the Annunciation, we kneel in humility and wonder, acknowledging the love by which Christ Jesus “emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7).
