 IN OUR PARISH

ST. CATHERINE PILGRIMAGE   Join Fr. Stef  in making a Lenten Pilgrimage to All Saints Church in Walton on Sunday, April 10th at 3:00 p.m for stations of the cross.  Anyone wanting to ride the bus, meet in the church parking lot and the bus will leave promptly at 2:30pm.  Call the parish office and give your name to Teresa by Monday, April 4th, to reserve a seat on the bus.

PRAISE & WORSHIP    Please join our church family for the second talk on RADICAL FORGIVENESS on Saturday, April 16th at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:00pm). On December 1, 1997 fifteen year old Missy Jenkins was standing in a prayer circle in the lobby of her Paducah high school when  a fellow student, who had been a target of bullying, opened fire, killing 3 and seriously injuring others. Hours after being shot, while lying in the ER, Missy forgave the student who shot and paralyzed her from the chest down, seriously altering her life forever. Missy is the co-author of the book, I Choose To Be Happy, A School Shooting Survivor’s Triumph Over Tragedy. Missy has been on Good Morning America, MTV, Dateline NBC, Oprah, Montel Williams Show, and the Today Show. This is another unique opportunity to witness God’s grace in action.  No tickets are required; a free-will offering will be taken. For more information call Terri at 441-3438 or Sharon 441-1069.

CCD TEACHERS: needed for the 2011-2012 school year. The time for discernment is now. We are in search of teachers for the 4th and  co-teachers for the 5th & 6th grades.  Interested persons must be active in their faith and ready to answer the call. The diocese requires applicants to be, or to become, Virtus trained and willing to begin work on teaching certification for religious education teachers. Contact Keith Morgeson at kmorgeson@stcatherineofsiena.org with your willingness to serve in this ministry.

PRO-LIFE FACT    On February 18th, the state of Kansas passed HB2218, which bans abortions after 22 weeks gestation due to the scientific evidence that not only do unborn children feel pain, they feel it more acutely because pain “dampeners” do not fully develop until 40 weeks gestation and later.  This is a beginning.

HOMILIES ON CD   Fr. Stef’s February homilies are available on CD in the back of church.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY     We have contracted with Olan Mills to create a parish pictorial directory.  They will be here photographing families May 11th – 14th, 18th – 21st, 27th and June 1st – 4th.  If you are unable to get on the stage, please schedule your appointment for May 27th or June 1st – 4th. You can schedule your photography session by going to https://signup.olanmills.com/familyinfo.aspx?chcontract=60596.  If you do not have internet access, please call the parish office and we will help you schedule your appointment.  We will also have sign up opportunities in the back of church the first 3 weekends in April.

DIOCESAN PARISH ANNUAL APPEAL 2011 – A TIME FOR REFLECTION   In preparation for Commitment Weekend, please take the time to read the DPAA newsletter that is enclosed with today’s bulletin.  A pledge to the Appeal makes you an ambassador for Christ in love, sacrifice and service.  Next weekend, during Mass, we will complete our DPAA pledge forms together.  Everything we do as Church is done to continue the mission of Christ until the end of time.  As we use our gifts in service to one another, we do so in His name.  Let us reach out in faith and give generously to the 2011 DPAA.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR THE UPCOMING CHANGE IN THE ROMAN MISSAL   Each week there will be an article relating to the upcoming changes in the Roman Missal.  (Some of them may be run more than once and they may not follow the Order of Mass.)

Introductory Rites

“Those who fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and will humble themselves

before him” (Sirach 2:17). The Introductory Rites of the Mass prepare us to listen to the

Word of God and to enter into the Holy Sacrifice. The Entrance, Greeting, Act of

Penitence, Kyrie, Gloria, and Collect are the means by which we cross the threshold,

acknowledge the presence of Christ, seek his mercy, praise the glory of the Father, and

pray together in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

Only in a context of adoration, humility, supplication, and praise can we hear the

Word of God rightly. The Introductory Rites of the Mass provide this context and foster

the attention of the listening heart. On certain occasions such as the Feast of the

Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd  and Palm Sunday, the Introductory Rites are

modified or performed in a particular way. The same is true when Mass is preceded by

any part of the Liturgy of the Hours.

The Introductory Rites of the Mass are most effective when silence precedes

them. “Even before the celebration itself, it is commendable that silence be observed in

the church, in the sacristy, in the vesting room, and in adjacent areas, so that all may

dispose themselves to carry out the sacred action in a devout and fitting manner” (GIRM,

art. 45).
