IN OUR PARISH

THANK YOU       Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners of St. Catherine -- "Thank you" seems
hardly enough to express my gratitude to all of you for the many prayers, thoughts, and spiritual enrollments that you have offered for myself and Tom over these past few months.  Your spiritual support along with offers for food, transportation, etc, have made this trial much easier.  We are so fortunate to be a part of this "Special St. Catherine's Family" and you will be remembered in our prayers. Marcia and Tom Adkins

HOMILIES ON CD   Fr. Stef’s September homilies are now available on CD in the back of church.

ALL SAINTS/ ALL SOULS    The masses for All Saints Day (Tuesday, November 1st) will be held at 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  This is a holy day of obligation this year.  Due to the mass, confessions will be canceled and Benediction will be at 6:00 p.m.  The All Souls mass will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m.  All are invited to join us for the mass as we remember those parishioners who have died this past year.  There will be a reception immediately following mass in McCrystal Hall, everyone is welcome.

ATTENTION MEN OF THE PARISH   The men’s retreat will be held November 4th - 6th at Marydale, featuring Fr. Giles Pater, the theme will be “Sing a New Song to the Lord.”  For information or reservations, call Brian Cox at 441-4322.

ALL WOMEN OF THE PARISH  The St. Catherine Men’s Group invites you to our 8th Annual Women’s Dinner on Saturday, November 12th at 7:00 pm in McCrystal Hall. For details and to make reservations, please see the green flyer in today’s bulletin.

Parish Night Program   Session two of the ten part series will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 16th.  Father Barron’s “Catholicism” is a ten part video series that takes the viewer around the Catholic world and explores the Church as a culture through its teachings, art, music, and architecture and most importantly the lives it shaped.  Father Barron lays out the Catholic proposal in a visually stunning and engaging series of presentations that invites everyone into the heart of the faith, which is friendship with Jesus Christ.  After spending the first session talking about who Jesus is, in the second installment, Fr. Barron now talks about what Jesus taught, beginning with the beatitudes and moving on to other key teachings.  For more information on the “Catholicism” series visit www.wordonfire.org.  Father Stef will facilitate each viewing with an open discussion and a question and answer session.  We know you won’t be disappointed so please plan on attending this year’s Parish Night Program.  Parish Night sessions begin immediately following 6:30 Mass.

Siena Ski Club:  We are looking forward to another great year of skiing at Perfect North Slopes, and are hoping you will join the fun! Whether you buy your pass through our Club, or through another Ski Club, or you bought your pass at the end of last season, we want you to let us know when you plan on skiing this season, so we can enjoy skiing together.  If you would like to be added to the e-mail list, we can e-mail group responses and let ski club members know when you plan to ski, so we can meet up with each other. Perfect North Slopes through Siena Ski Club, has many discounted passes to choose from, along with lessons for new or rusty skiers.  To be added to the e-mail list, please e-mail marymurrin@fuse.net.  If you would like to purchase season passes through our club, or if you have any questions, please e-mail Mary Murrin. Ski club discounted prices increase significantly after November 20th, 2011.

Volunteer Help For School Garden Needed   One of the many blessings of St. Catherine of Siena school is God’s Garden. It is a vegetable and fruit garden that was obtained through a grant by fourth and fifth grade teacher, Dave Schlachter. The children take pride in the garden and

the wonderful produce that they are able to harvest from it. One of the goals this year is to expand and enrich the current garden to provide more fresh produce for the school cafeteria and community. In order to allow this to happen, Mr. Schlachter is in need of some experienced hands to mentor students in small groups when they are working in the garden. Whether you are retired, a college student, or mom or dad with a few hours to share a month, your help would be greatly appreciated. You do not have to be an avid gardener to volunteer. Get back to nature.... get back to the earth.... help God’s Garden flourish! For more information or to volunteer, call the school at 572-2680 or email Mr. Schlachter at dschlachter@stcatherineofsiena.org.

IN OUR DIOCESE

SEMINIARIAN EDUCATION COLLECTION    “I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will pasture you wisely and discreetly.” (Jeremiah 3:15)  A vocation to the priesthood is an answer to Jesus’ call to participate in His work.  Christ is the One who calls.   The Diocese of Covington has 27 seminarians who have responded to Christ’s call.  These men will need the love and support of the community to complete their journey.  Estimated Diocesan cost for providing our seminarians with tuition, books, room and board, health insurance, living allowances and retreats for the coming year will amount to over $1.1 million.  You can help by making an immediate gift to the Seminarian Education Fund.  Please pray daily for our seminarians and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood.

INNOCENT ON DEATH ROW     The Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (KCADP) is sponsoring what they are calling the WITNESS TO INNOCENCE TOUR.  One of the speakers on the tour is Ray Krone, the 98th death row inmate to be exonerated.  (There are now more than 140.)  He will be speaking in our area on Monday, 31 October, at 7:00 p.m., at Thomas More College, in Steigerwald Hall in the Holbrook Student Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

Woman’s Health and Infertility Conference   St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the Diocese of Covington invite you to attend a conference on NaProTECHNOLOGY, a new approach to women’s health and infertility to be held on Saturday, November 5th, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood Medical Office Building - Room 249.  Registration at 8:30 a.m., conference begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by questions and answers session.  Presenter will be Mark Stegman, MD, FACOG, CFCMC, Ob/Gyn Medical Consultant in NaProTECHNOLOGY.  Cost is $10 and includes box lunch.  For more information or to RSVP, please contact the Pro-Life Office at (859) 392-1546. Holy Communion, Part 2

“O taste and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 33:9). We approach the Body and

Blood of Christ in “Eucharistic amazement” and joy. The Church carefully regulates the

manner of receiving Holy Communion. “The faithful are not permitted to take the

consecrated bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and still less, to hand them from

one to another” (GIRM, art. 160). Holy Communion is never “taken”; it is a Gift

received with adoration.

“When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head

before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from

the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand, at

the discretion of each communicant. . . . As soon as the communicant receives the host,

he or she consumes it entirely. . . . When Holy Communion is received under both kinds,

the sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood” (GIRM, art. 160

and 161).

After the distribution of Holy Communion, the priest and people spend some time

praying in silence. If desired, a psalm or hymn of praise may be sung before the priest

says the Prayer After Communion.
