THANK YOU
Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners of St. Catherine -- "Thank
you" seems
hardly enough to express my gratitude to all of you for the many prayers,
thoughts, and spiritual enrollments that you have offered for myself and Tom
over these past few months. Your spiritual support along with offers for
food, transportation, etc, have made this trial much easier. We are so
fortunate to be a part of this "Special St. Catherine's Family" and
you will be remembered in our prayers. Marcia
and Tom Adkins

Parish
Night Program Session
two of the ten part series will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 16th.
Father Barron’s “Catholicism” is a ten part video series that takes
the viewer around the Catholic world and explores the Church as a culture
through its teachings, art, music, and architecture and most importantly the
lives it shaped. Father Barron lays
out the Catholic proposal in a visually stunning and engaging series of
presentations that invites everyone into the heart of the faith, which is
friendship with Jesus Christ. After
spending the first session talking about who Jesus is, in the second
installment, Fr. Barron now talks about what Jesus taught, beginning with the
beatitudes and moving on to other key teachings.
For more information on the “Catholicism” series visit www.wordonfire.org.
Father Stef will facilitate each viewing with an open discussion and a
question and answer session. We know
you won’t be disappointed so please plan on attending this year’s Parish
Night Program. Parish Night sessions
begin immediately following 6:30 Mass.
Siena
Ski Club: We are looking forward to another great year of
skiing at Perfect North Slopes, and are hoping you will join the fun! Last year
was the beginning of Siena Ski Club and we had a wonderful beginning to our
club. Whether you buy your pass through our Club, or through another Ski Club,
or you bought your pass at the end of last season, we want you to let us know
when you plan on skiing this season, so we can enjoy skiing together. If
you would like to be added to the e-mail list, we can e-mail group responses and
let ski club members know when you plan to ski, so we can meet up with each
other. Perfect North Slopes through Siena Ski Club, has many discounted passes
to choose from, along with lessons for new or rusty skiers. To be added to
the e-mail list, please e-mail marymurrin@fuse.net.
If you would like to purchase season passes through our club, or if you have any
questions, please e-mail Mary Murrin. Ski club discounted prices increase
significantly after November 20th, 2011.
Volunteer
Help For School Garden Needed One
of the many blessings of St. Catherine of Siena school is God’s Garden. It is
a vegetable and fruit garden that was obtained through a grant by fourth and
fifth grade teacher, Dave Schlachter. The children take pride in the garden and
the
wonderful produce that they are able to harvest from it. One of the goals this
year is to expand and enrich the current garden to provide more fresh produce
for the school cafeteria and community. In order to allow this to happen, Mr.
Schlachter is in need of some experienced hands to mentor students in small
groups when they are working in the garden. Whether you are retired, a college
student, or mom or dad with a few hours to share a month, your help would be
greatly appreciated. You do not have to be an avid gardener to volunteer. Get
back to nature.... get back to the earth.... help God’s Garden flourish! For
more information or to volunteer, call the school at 572-2680 or email Mr.
Schlachter at dschlachter@stcatherineofsiena.org.

SEMINIARIAN EDUCATION COLLECTION
“I will give you shepherds
after my own heart, who will pasture you wisely and discreetly.” (Jeremiah
3:15) A vocation to the priesthood
is an answer to Jesus’ call to participate in His work.
Christ is the One who calls. The
Diocese of Covington has 27 seminarians who have responded to Christ’s call.
These men will need the love and support of the community to complete
their journey. Estimated Diocesan
cost for providing our seminarians with tuition, books, room and board, health
insurance, living allowances and retreats for the coming year will amount to
over $1.1 million. You can help by
making an immediate gift to the Seminarian Education Fund.
Please pray daily for our seminarians and for an increase in vocations to
the priesthood.

IMPLEMENTATION
Holy
Communion, Part 2
“O taste
and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 33:9). We approach the Body and
Blood
of Christ in “Eucharistic amazement” and joy. The Church carefully regulates
the
manner
of receiving Holy Communion. “The faithful are not permitted to take the
consecrated
bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and still less, to hand them from
one
to another” (GIRM, art. 160). Holy Communion is never “taken”; it is a
Gift
received
with adoration.
“When
receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head
before
the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from
the
minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the
hand, at
the
discretion of each communicant. . . . As soon as the communicant receives the
host,
he
or she consumes it entirely. . . . When Holy Communion is received under both
kinds,
the
sign of reverence is also made before receiving the Precious Blood” (GIRM,
art. 160
and
161).
After the
distribution of Holy Communion, the priest and people spend some time
praying
in silence. If desired, a psalm or hymn of praise may be sung before the priest
says
the Prayer After Communion.
