PARISH CENSUS
If you have not yet verified your registration information, you
can come to the parish office during the week to check your information.
The office is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Those who do this will not get a home visit from our census workers.
Also, if you are willing to be a census taker, we still need your help.
Please contact Ann Ulbricht at 441-8159 to sign up.
We will be holding 2 training sessions here for the workers tomorrow, Monday,
October 3rd in the library and Wednesday, October 12th
in McCrystal Hall, both nights at
7:00 p.m. The training should take
no more than one hour.
WE WELCOME
to our parish family through baptism:
Margaret Elizabeth Adams, daughter of Kevin & Jenny.
May the Lord bless her life with love, health
and happiness.
RN's and LNP's NEEDED
to help administer flu
shots at church and at school. Call 491-8771 to volunteer.
ST.
CATHERINE MEN'S GROUP Our
next meeting is this Monday, October 3rd, at
8:00 pm in McCrystal Hall. Our meetings are open to all men
of the parish age 21 or older. Come for some great company, for a few
refreshments and snacks, and to help us plan for the annual Women’s dinner
coming up on November 12th.
Bus
to Pro-Life Mass Pray
for the sanctity of life on Tuesday,
October 4th at the Pro-Life mass at the Cathedral. With bus
transportation from St. Catherine to the Cathedral, you don’t have to worry
about parking. The bus will leave the St Catherine parking lot promptly at
6:15pm. Call the parish office, 441-1352, and get your reservation in
quickly so we know what size bus to reserve. This year we will have
pro-lifers from St. Philip also joining us on the bus. It will be a great
chance to meet and unite with other pro-life supporters and prayer warriors. We
will have Benediction at 5:45 p.m. that day, so that you will have plenty of
time to attend and still get on the bus.
ST. CATHERINE SIENA CLUB will
be meeting next Sunday, October 9th,
in McCrystal Hall at 12:30 p.m. Stop
by for some food, friends, fun and fellowship!
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
This program will be starting again on Sunday, October 9th
at the 9:00 a.m. mass. It is
open to children kindergarten - 5th
grade and is held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month
during the 9:00 am mass. The
children are taken to McCrystal hall and read the readings and Gospel from the
children’s lectionary and participate in a guided reflection about the Gospel.

UPCOMING
PRAISE AND WORSHIP SPEAKER Do
you believe in modern-day miracles? Deacon Jack Sullivan of Boston does
because he was healed on August 15, 2001 from a crippling spinal disorder
through the intercession of Cardinal Newman. This miraculous healing led to the
beautification of Cardinal Newman on September 19, 2010. Deacon Jack will tell
the story of this amazing miracle on Sunday, October 16th, 7:00PM
@ St. Catherine of Siena church in Ft. Thomas, KY. He will follow the talk with
a healing service and a blessing with Newman’s relic. No tickets needed, a
free-will offering will be taken. For details call 441-3438.
OPPORTUNITY
TO HELP OTHERS Our parish
members, Julie DuPont, Mary Scott, Karen Little, and Teena Devoto are
partnering with Welcome House of Northern Kentucky in a project called “The
Garden Shoppe”. They really need your help in making this project a
huge success! They are opening a store on Oct 4th
to benefit single-parent, lower income families who live at the Gardens at
Greenup Apartments in Covington. This housing complex is a
Welcome House affordable housing initiative with on-site support services
including intensive case management and licensed quality childcare. The program
works with families to set and achieve educational and vocational goals in
working toward sustainable income. They
are looking for personal care items, cleaning supplies, home goods, clothing,
shoes, toys, books and other miscellaneous items. Your new or gently-used
individual donations can be delivered to one of them, or pick up is available
upon request. They will gladly support your effort to organize a donation drive
at your school, through the church or work. In addition, your assistance with
connections to gain financial donations is also greatly needed and very much
appreciated. All donors will be provided with a donation receipt for tax
purposes. For additional information, please contact Julie DuPont at jdupont9@insightbb.com or 859-653-3336.
PRAYER
BLANKET MINISTRY provides
hand-made blankets as well as prayers to parishioners who are in the hospital
and/or ill for an extended time. If
you would like to make a blanket, donate material or make a financial donation
to this ministry, please contact Nancy Hassman at (859) 760-3751 or nhassman@fuse.net.

IMPLEMENTATION
The
Homily
“Preach the
word in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be
unfailing
in patience and in teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2). The homily is an integral part
of
the
Mass, reserved to priest celebrant himself, or entrusted by him “to a
concelebrating
priest
or occasionally, according to circumstances to a deacon, but never to a lay
person”
(GIRM,
art. 65). The homily may be an explanation of the Gospel, of the other Mass
readings,
or of the responsorial Psalm. It may call attention to other texts of the Mass
or
develop
the feast or mystery being celebrated on a given day. The homily is “the Word
in
other words.”
The best
preaching is prepared in silence. Before preaching the Word, the priest
listens
to it, repeats it, and allows it to germinate in his heart. The homily is a
bridge in
two
ways. It connects the first part of the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word, to the
second
part,
the Liturgy of the Eucharist; and it connects the Mass to the rest of life. The
homily
sends
God’s people, full of thanksgiving, into the Sacrifice of Christ renewed on
the altar,
and
prepares them to go forth into a world hungry for goodness, beauty, and truth.
