WE WELCOME TO OUR PARISH FAMILY    through baptism:  Olivia Marie Griffith, daughter of Brad & Kelly.  May God shower His blessings upon her.

STEWARDSHIP DRIVE   The Stewardship Committee will be making phone calls to all parishioners who have not yet pledged for 2011.  If you have not returned your pledge card for 2011, you will be receiving a phone call within the next 2 weeks.

PARISH MISSION WITH DEACON RALPH POYO     St. Catherine will be holding a parish mission from Sunday – Wednesday, January 23rd – 26th at 7:00 p.m.  Deacon Ralph Poyo was Ordained to the Permanent Deaconate in November of 2004 in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC.  He has served as a Youth Minister and Director of Faith Formation for over 25 years. He is currently the Founder/President of New Evangelization Ministries.  With his engaging and passionate style of preaching, the Lord continues to use him to reach people even beyond the parish setting, as he challenges listeners of all ages to get outside of their comfort zones in their day-to-day practice of the faith.  He is passionate about helping others to make Catholicism more a way of life than just a religious identity.  Having committed his life to the pursuit of Truth and to the service of the Church, he is faithful to the Magisterium and always seeks to be in union with Rome . Please see the back of the Advent booklet for titles of each talk.

GODSPELL, JR.   A musical production to be presented by St Catherine of Siena Junior High.  Remaining show dates are Sunday, January 16th at 3:00 p.m. and January 21st & 22nd at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, contact Jennie at 441-4322 or Carrie Bleser at 441-3999.  Don’t miss this opportunity to be entertained as our junior high students showcase their talents!

MASS AND ADORATION FOR THE DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE    We will be having mass at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24th.  Since the bishop is asking all parishes to hold adoration on this day, adoration will be held on Monday rather than Tuesday next week.  The time will remain the same, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending with Benediction at 6:45 p.m.   If you would like to sign up for a time of adoration, please contact Cathy Henry at 781-1815.  Please note that our Parish Mission will begin at 7:00 p.m.   All those attending Benediction are encouraged to stay for the mission and all those attending the mission are encouraged to come a little early for Benediction.

HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES   through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Monday-Wednesday, January 31st – February 2nd.  Assistance is needed in transporting families in the IHN van to and from Christ Church and the Day Center in Newport , preparing a meal, hosting a meal and spending the night. This is a great way for families and individuals to work together in service. New volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers so don’t let inexperience keep you from answering the call. Call Mindy Hoarston at 547-8415 for additional information or see the sign-up posters at the Rossford Avenue exit of church.

CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH WOMEN'S WEEKEND-FEBRUARY 19 & 20, 2011  This is a wonderful way to strengthen your relationship with God, get to know other women of the parish and discover something new about yourself.  We hope you will take the opportunity to come walk with us as we grow together in our Faith.  To reserve your spot in the Garden, call or email Dinah Marron (859) 291-2919 (dinah.marron@kaobrands.com) or Erin Hellmann (859) 442-7911 (hellmann.ea@pg.com).

LADIES OF THE PARISH MARK YOUR CALENDARS      The annual St. Catherine Women’s retreat will be held February 25th – 27th at Marydale.  The retreat leader will be Fr. Jeff VonLehman from St. Patrick church in Taylor Mill.  For questions or reservations, call Jennie Cox, 441-4322 or Nancy Hassman, 760-3751.

A GREAT STEWARDSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR (WANNA-BE) GARDNERS     A local group is initiating a community farm for the hungry called "The Giving Fields".  The goal is to harvest 100,000 pounds of fresh produce for local soup kitchens and church and emergency food pantries in Northern Kentucky .  Volunteers are needed to plan and organize, plant, water, maintain, remove weeds and harvest.  The busiest season will be between mid-June through August.  The farm is located in Melbourne , Kentucky .  St. Catherine Parish has been invited to join other local churches in this initiative.  The Giving Fields will be an opportunity to participate in a hands-on activity to help alleviate hunger in our community.  Volunteers will bond with neighbors and learn about farming.  It is a perfect family outing and a way to teach children about healthy eating and the joy of giving.  Finally, it is great exercise in the fresh air on a beautiful farm setting on the banks of the Ohio River .  THERE IS ONLY ONE THING KEEPING US FROM JOINING THIS EFFORT. A person (or two) is needed to be the "point person" for our parish, to delegate, oversee, and coordinate parish volunteers. The time commitment would be 1-2 hours twice per week from late May until late August.  Further information can be obtained from Doug Bray at gardening@insightbb.com. If you are interested in being the "point person" for St. Catherine Parish, please contact Sheila Carroll 491-8771.

MEN OF THE PARISH - SAVE THE DATE    St. Catherine’s Men’s retreat will be Nov 4-5-6th.  2011.  Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend!

PRO- LIFE FACT    For a half-century now, well over a hundred studies have indicated a link between abortion and breast cancer, with increased risks being upward of 50% for abortions before a first full-term pregnancy.  Full story at LifeNews.com.

ST. BERNARD PANTRY   For the month of January, we will be collecting canned soups and canned meals (ravioli, chili, etc.). Donations can be dropped off to church, the parish office or the school office.

BISHOP FOYS        has declared Monday, January 24th as a Day of Prayer and Penance for Life in the Diocese of Covington to mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing abortion.  Every church will remain open during the day to allow the faithful to pray for an end to abortion, to pray for all those affected by the tragedy of abortion, and to pray for the 50 million children murdered by abortion.  Every parish will also expose the Blessed Sacrament for a period of time on this day.  Here at St. Catherine, we will have mass at 8:00 a.m. and adoration will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. (This will take the place of our usual Tuesday adoration.)  Finally, Bishop Foys has designated 10 churches to host a Holy Hour for Life beginning at 7pm . The complete list can be found in the Messenger.  We must all do our part to protect the dignity of the human person and ensure the inalienable right to life for all - especially the unborn.
