IN OUR PARISH

CAFETERIA WORKERS NEEDED   This school year, we have a serious lack of workers for the cafeteria.  If you are interested in working in the cafeteria this school year, please call Judy Leick at 781-3890.  Report time is 10:45 and depending on whether you stay for lunch you can be finished by 12:30 .  The kids love seeing a familiar face, (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle) during lunch. You only have to work once a month, unless of course, you would like to work more.  Even if you don’t have a relative in the school, as long as you are Virtus trained, you are welcome to volunteer!

SCRIP PROGRAM   St. Catherine received a check for $723 from Kroger.  This is 4% of what was reloaded on the Kroger cards last month.  This is money that was made just by people doing their grocery shopping.  Imagine how much we could make if every family that shopped at Kroger used the reloadable Kroger card!  Be sure to keep the Scrip program in mind for gas cards, restaurants, retail stores and gift-giving.  This is definitely the easiest way to earn money for our parish.

ST. BERNARD PANTRY   We will once again be collecting items every month for the pantry.  For the month of August, we will be collecting spaghetti and pasta sauce.  Donations can be dropped off to church, the parish office or the school office (once school begins).

HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES   through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Monday-Wednesday, August 30th, 31st & September 1st.  Assistance is needed in transporting families in the IHN van to and from Christ Church and the Day Center in Newport , preparing a meal, hosting a meal and spending the night. This is a great way for families and individuals to work together in service. New volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers so don’t let inexperience keep you from answering the call. Call Mindy Hoarston at 547-8415 for additional information or see the sign-up posters at the Rossford Avenue exit of church.

WHAT IS RCIA?   The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental formation process that prepares a person to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Conversion is at the heart of the process.  The initiation of new members can only take place within the context of a community of believers.  The initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized.    How Can Parish Members Become Involved in the RCIA Process?  One of the most essential parts of the formation process is the identification of candidates.  This is one instance where members of our faith community play a vital role.  Is there someone in your life who has expressed an interest in knowing more about our faith?  Do you have a spouse, neighbor, co-worker, or anyone who has spoken with you about this subject?  Ninety percent of our candidates come from referrals of parish members.  If you have someone in your life that would like to consider the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please call or have the potential candidate call the parish office (441-1352), or Paul Meisenhelder (491-9455).  The date for classes to begin is Thursday, September 9th, at 7:00 p.m. in the room next to the school library.  Please reach out to potential candidates and encourage them to make the call or volunteer to do so for them.

SAVE THE DATE   Men’s Retreat November 5th – 7th at Marydale. Our Retreat Master will be Father Greg Bach.  And the topic for the weekend is “Grace Upon Grace”. Contact: Barry Henry 859-781-1815; Brian Cox 859-441-4322; Bob Hassman 859-653-6014.

PRO- LIFE FACT     71,000 American babies are aborted each year at 16 weeks or older.

DOMESTIC NEEDS COMBINED COLLECTION   Did you know that 37 million Americans live in poverty?  That’s more than the total population of California .  Did you know that 45 percent of all Arch/Dioceses in the United States are unable to provide ministries to their people without outside assistance?  Did you know that 90 percent of Thomas More College students receive financial aid?  Today’s second collection supports the work of six separate Catholic appeals whose combined ministries offer financial aid to college students, provide job training for men and women trying to break free from the cycle of poverty, keep church doors open in remote areas where Catholic institutions are few in number, offer evangelization programs in African and Native American and Eskimo communities, and bring the Good News to TV, radio, and newspaper audiences.  Please give to the Diocesan Domestic Needs Collection.  Your prayers and generosity will help your brothers and sisters throughout the United States .  Remember your one gift supports six Collections.
