IN OUR PARISH

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY   is extended to the family and friends of Rose Staley, Robert Riebling, Shirley Gall and Dr. Marcellus Schwegman, all of whom were buried from St. Catherine over the last 2 weeks.  Please remember them in your prayers.

LENTEN FASTING AND ABSTINENCE    Fasting requires a Catholic from the 18th to the 59th birthday to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal.  The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity.  Such fasting is obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday.  On the Fridays outside of Lent Catholics in the US may substitute a penitential or even a charitable practice of their own choosing.

The other traditional Lenten practice is prayer.  Although there is no church regulation regarding it, it is a good practice to pick a new or additional way of praying during Lent.

LITTLE BLACK BOOKS     Booklets of daily Lenten devotions are available in the back of church.  Inside each book is a bookmark listing all of our Lenten events.  Please be sure to pick one up as you are leaving.

ALL DAY EXPOSITION    Beginning the first Tuesday in Lent, February 23rd, and continuing through the Lenten season, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin immediately following 8:00 a.m. mass and end with Benediction at 6:45 p.m.   If you would like to sign up for a time, there will be a sign up sheet at the Rossford entrance. If you have any questions, call Cathy Henry at 781-1815.

IT’S FISH FRY TIME AGAIN!!!   It's getting to be the Lenten season and that means fish fry time. We are in need of some volunteers for this fun parish event.  The days are February 26th and March 12th.  We have 2 shifts:   4:15p.m. – 6:00 p.m. & 5:45 pm - 7:00 pm .  We also need help with clean-up from approximately 7:00 p.m.   - 8:00 p.m.  This is such a fun opportunity to be with fellow parishioners while helping out the parish!  Call Mary Meyer at 859-291-7771 or email her at gmmeyer@fuse.net for questions or to sign up.  This is also a great way for kids to earn service hours.

WOMEN'S RETREAT      Room is still available....So far 20 women have signed up to hear Fr. Charlie Smeich at Marydale February 26th -28th help us deepen our relationship with our Father (based on Luke 15). Can we make it 30?  This retreat is an excellent way to continue to grow spiritually with other women and have some fun while doing it!  Ladies, you won't regret it - Once you make the commitment you will want to come every year.  Do it Now!  Call Jennie Cox (441-4322) or Pat Brennan (781-2711) soon!

SPECIAL CEREMONY     Next Saturday, February 27th, during the 4:30 p.m. mass, Bishop Foys will be here to perform a ceremony which will declare St. Catherine parishioner, Louise Roth, a consecrated virgin. As a consecrated person, her life is a public witness in the Church and in society.  By her very life of virginity she is witnessing her total love for her Spouse, Jesus Christ.  This type of consecration is very rare and Louise will be the only one in the entire state of Kentucky .  Following mass, there will be a reception held in McCrystal Hall for anyone wishing to celebrate this special occasion with Louise.

HOMILIES ON CD       The Sunday homilies from ordinary time are now available on CD in the back of church.

ATTENTION PLEASE    The new schedules for servers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are available in the back of church.

ST. CATHERINE’S FEATURED SOLDIER     We will periodically be featuring an overseas soldier either from the parish or related to parishioners.  As a parish, we will pray for and collect items for the featured soldier.  In addition we will be publishing a list of soldiers for whom to pray. A photograph of each featured soldier will be hung in the back of church with a box for collecting things to be sent from the parish.  If you know of a soldier you would like to be included in this new program, please e-mail his or her name to cdorger@fuse.net.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE FOLLOWING SOLDIERS SERVING OUR COUNTRY   Jonathan Klingenberg, Patrick Collopy, and Wes Diehl.
