IN OUR PARISH

THANK YOU    “Dear Fr. Stef, I want to thank you again for the kindness you and your schoolchildren showed us this Christmas.  We are very grateful.  This year we increased the number of families we helped.  Last year our goal was 300 families in our two county parish.  This year because of the recession we increased the number of families we helped to 400 for each county for a total of 800 families.  We give them food, toys, and clothing. We have a religious service before we distribute the boxes and we let the folks know from whom the gifts come and ask them to pray for all of you.  Once again, thanks.  I shall remember you and your people every day in my prayers.  I pray that Our Lady and St. Joseph will draw you ever closer to Jesus our Savior.  Sincerely in Jesus and Mary, Monsignor Ralph W. Beiting

FROM THE FINANCE COUNCIL     Occasionally we receive inquiries as to why our weekly budgeted offerings fluctuate.  Over the past few years, the finance council has performed trend analysis of our collections to help us forecast our budget more accurately.  It is a fact that the collections in the summer months are lower than the collections in the winter months.  Additionally, collections around holidays are usually higher than in ordinary time.  We have quarterly givers, monthly givers, weekly givers and so on.  All of these factors and some good old fashioned math help us generate a forecast against our budget for the year.  Our goal is of course to provide the most accurate representation of our budget and our progress each week.  We also provide comparisons to last year at the same time to give some further perspective.  Thank you for the questions and of course feel free to provide any suggestions you might have.

SCRIP PROGRAM      Thanks to all those who supported the scrip program during Christmas and throughout the year.  Remember to buy scrip for your everyday needs – gas, groceries, restaurants, etc.  This program is the easiest way for our parish to earn money and it doesn’t cost you anything extra!!  We have made over $10,000 since July!

HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES   through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Monday-Wednesday, January 25th, 26th & 27th.   Assistance is needed in transporting families in the IHN van to and from Christ Church and the Day Center in Newport , preparing a meal, hosting a meal and spending the night. This is a great way for families and individuals to work together in service. New volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers so don’t let inexperience keep you from answering the call. Call Mindy Hoarston at 547-8415 for additional information or see the sign-up posters at the Rossford Avenue exit of church.

WOMEN'S RETREAT   A retreat is the time to stop, pray and rest.  It is the time to discover the light of Christ that is in each and every one of us.  Please join the women of our parish (last year we had over 20-consistently the largest group in the diocese) Feb. 26th - 28th at Marydale and Fr. Charlie Smiech will be our retreat leader. The theme for the weekend is “Returning to the Father with Open Arms”     based upon the Gospel of St. Luke 15.  This retreat will offer personal time to reflect upon our relationship with God and our friends. After careful evaluation, then change what needs to be changed in order to enhance and deepen our commitment to God and those we live with.   The weekend starts with dinner Friday night at 6:45 and ends Sunday usually around 11:00 .  The cost for the weekend is $125.  Please call Jennie Cox at 441-4322 or Pat Brennan at 781-2711 for reservations.  We'll see you there!
