IN OUR PARISH

WE WELCOME TO OUR PARISH FAMILY   through baptism: Owen James Bertke, son of Brian and Beth Ginter.  May the Lord continue to bless him and his family.

PRAYER FOR SAFE TRAVEL     As some of you may know, Fr. Bob will be leaving for a pilgrimage to Medjugorje this week.  Please pray he has a safe and rewarding trip.

SCRIP NEWS     Thanks to all who support the Scrip Program!!  From January 1st to September 1st this program made $8,000 for the Parish!  Also, for the month of July the Parish received $795.00 from Kroger!  Imagine how much we could make if half of the parishioners use their Kroger card when they do their grocery shopping! Also, keep in mind that your Kroger card may also be used for buying gas.  A new order form for Scrip is now available on the parish website.  Thank you!

ST. CATHERINE SCHOOL HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER!   Our maintenance crew worked diligently painting and cleaning all summer to get the school in tip-top shape.  If you would like to see the fruits of their labor, then join school secretary Betsy Stegner on Sunday, September 13th at 12:15 p.m. for a tour of the school.  This is open to everyone in the parish, whether you have children in school or not.

PRE -K RELIGION IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS    Have you been wondering how you can give back to the Church, but don't have a lot of time to spare? We have an opportunity for you!  Pre-K Religion is in need of teachers that are Virtus certified.  We hope to begin offering classes in October, 2009. The time commitment is minimal and you will only "teach" every other Sunday (during 9am mass) which amounts to only 10 classes that you would help prepare. Please consider introducing the concepts of God and Bible stories into the lives of our 3-5 year olds.  Call Candace Doepker at 859-572-0113 for more information or email at doepkercl@insightbb.com.   Parents - forms for registration will be available soon - keep you eyes on the bulletin and Scoop for more information.

CCD CLASSES BEGIN SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2009 AT 10:15AM . CONTINUES   If you haven't already registered your child, registration forms may be downloaded from our parish website at www.stcatherineofsiena.org. - click on CCD.  Forms and payment should be returned to the parish office to the attention of Mary Brzinski as soon as possible and will be assessed a higher fee.   All CCD classes are held in St. Catherine School .  CCD families will receive startup information by email in the coming weeks.  Any email address changes from last year should be directed to David Kohrs, CCD Coordinator, at kohrssd@fuse.net .

WHAT IS RCIA?   The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental formation process that prepares a person to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Conversion is at the heart of the process.  The initiation of new members can only take place within the context of a community of believers.  The initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized.    How Can Parish Members Become Involved in the RCIA Process?  One of the most essential parts of the formation process is the identification of candidates.  This is one instance where members of our faith community play a vital role.  Is there someone in your life who has expressed an interest in knowing more about our faith?  Do you have a spouse, neighbor, co-worker, or anyone who has spoken with you about this subject?  Ninety percent of our candidates come from referrals of parish members.  If you have someone in your life that would like to consider the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please call or have the potential candidate call the parish office (441-1352), or Paul Meisenhelder (491-9455).  The RCIA classes begin on Thursday, September 10th, at 7:00 p.m. in the room next to the school library.  Please reach out to potential candidates and encourage them to make the call or volunteer to do so for them.

HOMILIES ON CD    Fr. Stef's August homilies are now available on CD in the back of church.

FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION   Thanks to all those who donated peanut butter for the St. Bernard Food Pantry.  Because of your generosity, we collected 213 jars - enough to give almost every family a jar for the month!!  The items for the September collection are pancake mix and syrup.  You can once again drop your donation off in the side entrance area of church or in the parish office.  Thanks for your support in this ministry!

OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY    You may have recently seen the ad in the Messenger for the trip Fr. Daniel Vogelpohl is organizing to Europe next summer to see the world renowned Oberammergau Passion Play.  For those who are interested, he will be having an information meeting at Blessed Sacrament Church in the Parish Center on Tuesday evening, September 8th at 7:00 PM .  If you are interested, please call or email Fr. Vogelpohl.  (331-4302 or dvogelpohl@bscky.org)  Here, in question and answer format, is some additional information regarding the Oberammergau Passion Play. What is the Passion Play?   The world-renowned Oberammergau Passion Play began in 1634 when residents from the town sought reprieve from the Bubonic Plague. The inhabitants of the village vowed that if God were to spare them from the Plague, they would perform a play every ten years depicting the life and death of Jesus. Not a single person fell victim to the Plague after the villagers' promise. That first performance sparked a heartfelt tradition that lives on today.
When does the Passion Play occur?  The Oberammergau Passion Play is performed every ten years for a limited time May - September 2010 by nearly half of Oberammergau ’s residents who will bring to life this powerful story blending dramatic text, beautiful music and choral accompaniment.
Why would I want to see the Passion Play?  Perhaps it is the fact that the Passion Play is performed only every 10 years or that it has carried on an age-old tradition from 1634 to the present day. Whatever the reason, there are few events in the world that are truly once-in-a-lifetime happenings... and this is one of them!

THE DOMESTIC NEEDS COLLECTION     May God bless you for your stewardship.  Last weekend, members of our parish donated $1548 to support the ministries of 6 Catholic organizations that are combined into our one Domestic Needs Collection.  If you have not made your gift to Strengthen Your Church at Home, please do so today or next weekend.  Use the envelope you received in the mail or the one included in your parish envelope box.  Make your check payable to the Domestic Needs Collection.  Thank you.
