EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED      Sometime in September, we are hoping to begin Exposition immediately following the 8:00 am mass.  If you would like to sign up for an adoration time, please contact Cathy Henry at 781-1815.  

PLEASE NOTE   There will be no blood pressure screening in September due to the Labor Day holiday.  The screenings will resume the first weekend in October.

 PARISH NIGHTS ARE BACK!     Mark your calendar for Wednesday, September 2^nd, and be sure to attend the kick-off to year 2 of Parish Night!!  Fr. Stef will speak briefly after mass, giving an overview of the upcoming schedule.  A family grill out, provided by the Foresters, will follow in McCrystal Hall.  This will be the perfect opportunity to catch up with fellow parishioners.

MANY THANKS!!   Once again, our Vacation Bible School was a big success! This is due to the wonderful group of volunteers who worked so hard to make the week fun and educational. This year, the co-chairs of VBS were Kathleen Girnus and Kim Kruer, both of whom worked tirelessly in planning the week and organizing the volunteers.  Thanks to the two of them and their many volunteers!!

LOVE SINGING YOUR PRAISES TO THE LORD?    Then why not become a member of the St. Catherine Choir?  Over the past few years, the choir has lost several of its members but has not had any new members join.  Practices are held on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm , September - May.  If you are interested in joining, please call Denise Dirkes at the parish office - 441-1352, extension 15.

PRE -K RELIGION IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS    Have you been wondering how you can give back to the Church, but don’t have a lot of time to spare? We have an opportunity for you!  Pre-K Religion is in need of teachers that are Virtus certified.  We hope to begin offering classes in October, 2009. The time commitment is minimal and you will only “teach” every other Sunday (during 9am mass) which amounts to only 10 classes that you would help prepare. CCD REGISTRATION FOR 2009-2010 CONTINUES   Registration forms may be downloaded from our parish website at www.stcatherineofsiena.org. - click on CCD.  Late registrations should be returned to the parish office to the attention of Mary Brzinski as soon as possible and will be assessed a higher fee.

PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS POLICY   Students make their immediate preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist in the second grade class, and their immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the eighth grade class. All of the grades, elementary and high school, are important and necessary for the remote preparation for the sacraments and a fuller understanding of the Catholic Christian Faith. It is for this reason that the St. Catherine Board of Catholic Education has set policies establishing requirements for the preparation for the sacraments. To comply with these policies, any child wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation must attend all grades of religious education training prior to, as well as, the year of the receipt of the sacrament.

CCD CLASSES BEGIN SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2009 AT 10:15AM .  All CCD classes are held in St. Catherine School .  CCD families will receive startup information by email in the coming weeks.  Any email address changes from last year should be directed to David Kohrs, CCD Coordinator, at kohrssd@fuse.net .  

WHAT IS RCIA?   The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental formation process that prepares a person to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Conversion is at the heart of the process.  The initiation of new members can only take place within the context of a community of believers.  The initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized.    How Can Parish Members Become Involved in the RCIA Process?  One of the most essential parts of the formation process is the identification of candidates.  This is one instance where members of our faith community play a vital role.  Is there someone in your life who has expressed an interest in knowing more about our faith?  Do you have a spouse, neighbor, co-worker, or anyone who has spoken with you about this subject?  Ninety percent of our candidates come from referrals of parish members.  If you have someone in your life that would like to consider the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please call or have the potential candidate call the parish office (441-1352), or Paul Meisenhelder (491-9455).  The RCIA classes begin on Thursday, September 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in the room next to the school library.  Please reach out to potential candidates and encourage them to make the call or volunteer to do so for them.

IN OUR DIOCESE

HEALING MASS    sponsored by the Mustard Seed Community to be held on Friday, September 4^th, at Mother of God Church, 119 W. 6^th St. , Covington .  Fr. Bob Rottgers will be the celebrant, with music by the Sacred Heart Praise Band.  Mass begins at 7:15 p.m. with Praise and Worship.  Prayers for healing follow mass.

NCC SPONSORS 16^th ANNUAL FAMILY FIREWORKS FEST     on Sunday, September 6^th beginning at 4:00 p.m and lasting through the Big Blast!  There will be games, live entertainment, fun family activities, food and drinks available. (Sorry, no cans, bottles or coolers will be permitted).  A $3 admission will be charged at the gate – age 5 and under are free.  Limited parking passes guaranteeing you a parking spot on the hill will cost $10. Please request handicap space if needed.  There are only 25 handicap spaces available.  Parking passes may be purchased in the school office.  All proceeds from the Fest will go to the NCC tuition assistance fund. THE DOMESTIC NEEDS COLLECTION     Did you know that 37 million Americans live in poverty?  That’s more than the total population of California . Did you know that 45% of all Arch/Dioceses in the United States are unable to provide ministries to their people without outside assistance?  Did you know that 90% of Thomas More College students receive financial aid?  Today’s second Collection supports the work of 6 separate Catholic appeals whose combined ministries offer financial aid to college students, provide job training for men and women trying to break free from the cycle of poverty, keep church doors open in remote areas where Catholic institutions are few in number, offer evangelization programs in Arfrican, Native American and Eskimo communities, and bring the Good News to TV, radio and newspaper audiences.  Please give to the Diocesan Domestic Needs Collection.  Your prayers and generosity will help your brothers and sisters throughout the United States .  Remember your one gift supports 6 Collectons.

PRAY TO END ABORTION    Beginning Saturday, September 12^th, and every second Saturday thereafter, Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants Prayer Vigil for Life will sponsor Mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church , 1175 Overlook Ave. , Price Hill, followed by a rosary procession to the nearby Planned Parenthood facility.  Also, on the first, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month, the group will continue its 13-year prayer vigil at Holy Name Church, 2448 Auburn Ave., with an 8:00 a.m. Mass, rosary and benediction.
