      IN OUR PARISH

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY     is extended to the family and friends of John Bourke, who passed away last week.  Please continue to pray for him and his family.

HELP NEEDED     The ceiling in the back of church is in need of refinishing.  If this is something you are able to do, we could use your help.  Please contact Dennis Kramer at 441-1352, ext 17 if you would like to volunteer.

DEAR FATHER STEF AND PARISHIONERS   Thank you so very much for the wonderful donation of $250.00 St. Catherine Parish gave to St. Augustine Parish Center .  Here in the housing project City Heights , we serve about 90% of the 953 residents.  Your support of our ministry to them is such a blessing.  This troubled economy is placing even further burdens on our low-income clients to be able to meet their basic needs.  Clearly the Holy Spirit is alive and active throughout your parish.  We are truly thankful you chose to share some of the profits of your Market Day program with St. Augustine Parish Center .  I pray and believe our loving God will bless you richly for giving so generously to those in need.   Gratefully yours, Sister Ellen M. Eckerle, CDP

THANKS   to everyone in the parish who donated Walmart gift cards for CareNet Pregnancy Center .  With your generosity, CareNet was able to purchase 15 cases of diapers for their program through the discount Walmart offers them.  If anyone wants to donate Walmart gift cards in the future, please contact Nancy Hassman at 760-3751.  This benefits both the St. Catherine Scrip program and CareNet.

ST BERNARD FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION     We are once again going to be collecting items every month to be donated to the food pantry.  The item being collected this month is family size peanut butter.  You can drop off your donation to the parish office or in the vestibules at the side entrances to church.

ST CATHERINE MEN'S GROUP    The men of the Parish won't want to miss our meeting this Monday, August 3rd at 8:00 pm in McCrystal Hall. Our guest speaker will be Fr. Bob Rottgers, who will tell us about his first experiences and impressions as a new priest. We'll also start planning our 6th Annual Women's Dinner. The great speaker, fellowship, snacks, and beverages are all free (except for Brian Cox's semi-mandatory split-the-pot).

CCD REGISTRATION FOR 2009-2010 CONTINUES   Registration forms may be downloaded from our parish website at www.stcatherineofsiena.org. - click on CCD.  Late registrations should be returned to the parish office to the attention of Mary Brzinski as soon as possible and will be assessed a higher fee.

PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS POLICY   Students make their immediate preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist in the second grade class, and their immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the eighth grade class. All of the grades, elementary and high school, are important and necessary for the remote preparation for the sacraments and a fuller understanding of the Catholic Christian Faith. It is for this reason that the St. Catherine Board of Catholic Education has set policies establishing requirements for the preparation for the sacraments. To comply with these policies, any child wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation must attend all grades of religious education training prior to, as well as, the year of the receipt of the sacrament.

CCD CLASSES BEGIN SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2009 AT 10:15AM .  All CCD classes are held in St. Catherine School .  CCD families will receive startup information by email in the coming weeks.  Any email address changes from last year should be directed to David Kohrs, CCD Coordinator, at kohrssd@fuse.net .
