IN OUR PARISH

LENT BEGINS THIS COMING WEDNESDAY!   Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season.  Mass will be held at 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.   Also, during Lent, Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.     

PARISH NIGHT FEATURING DEACON BOB ROTTGERS    Be sure to join us for Parish Night this Ash Wednesday evening, February 25th, following mass. Our very own Deacon Bob will be speaking on “The Season of Lent”.  This will be a great way to start off the Lenten Season.  

PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY WAR    Our 8th Grade CCD Class has declared war on hunger. We have challenged all of the churches and businesses in our area to a Peanut Butter and Jelly war.           We are trying to collect 1000 jars of PB&J and $1,000.00 by February 28th to benefit St. Bernard Pantry, Be Concerned and Hosea House. We need your donations too! Donations can be dropped off at our church office, in the back of church or call Tammy Schroder at 781-2412 for pick up.  

HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT    All high school students from St. Catherine parish are invited to the retreat at Marydale on March 7th & 8th.  Make plans now to attend this incredible weekend!  Please contact Brian Cox at 441-4322 with any questions or to make a reservation.  

ATTENTION SERVERS AND EUCHARIST MINISTERS   New schedules are ready for pick up in the back of church.  

FISH FRY COMING     Mark your calendar for a double treat in March.  The popular Fish Fry of the Social Life Committee will be held on March 6th & 20th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.   Hand-dipped fish from Green Derby Catering, macaroni and cheese or French fries, apple sauce or cole slaw.   Pizza will also be available.  Be sure to bring the family!    VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED   to help with both Fish Frys. If you would like to volunteer for either or both days, please contact Mary Meyer at 291-7771. 

IN OUR DIOCESE

FISH FRY     St. Therese Parish is sponsoring a Fish Fry during Lent this year. Beginning Ash Wednesday and every Friday with the exception of March 20th & April 10th.  Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner $6.75 consisting of Fried or Baked Cod, Macaroni & Cheese or Fries and Cole Slaw, Dessert. Cheese pizza by the slice may also be purchased. Come join a fun evening of food and socializing with old friends and neighbors. Hope to see you there!

HOLY TRINITY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER    at 840 Washington Ave. in Newport will ve having a Fish Fry every Friday during Lent from 4 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. You can dine-in or carry-out.  Carry-out orders are available from 3:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. , call 491-7612 to place orders.  Fish set-ups are $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for children.  Grilled cheese set-ups $3.75, desserts $.50, soft drinks $.75.  

ATTENTION 8th GRADE BOYS    Newport Central Catholic is looking for 8th grade boys interested in participating in the school’s Baseball Program this spring.  To participate, students must be from one of our District Parishes: Divine Mercy, Holy Spirit, St. Bernard, St. Catherine, St. Thomas , or St. Therese. WERE YOU IN THE ST. THOMAS BOYS SCHOLA?  There are plans in the works for a “Reunion Mass” directed by Maestro Jack Ward and we are looking for all men who were in this choir to participate. The performance date is April 19th at the 10:30 a.m. mass at St. Thomas .  There will be practices held on two or three evenings prior to the Mass. INTERESTED IN TRAVEL?    Fr. Joe Boschert will lead a tour to Niagara Falls/Toronto, Canada .  The tour will be a 5 day/4 night tour.  The tour will be from June 22nd - 26th, 2009 .  Cost is $429.00 per person.  Remember, to enter Canada or Mexico , you need to have a passport or a passport card.  The passport card is about half the cost of a passport, but it can only be used for Canada & Mexico .  If interested in the tour, please call Fr.
