IN OUR PARISH

“What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

From the Gospel of John we hear how Jesus is the light of the world and the things of the world cannot put out this blessed light. Let us celebrate the Coming of our Messiah and may the love of the Father shine bright in our hearts and lives throughout this Christmas season.   Merry Christmas from the Parish Office

BULLETIN DEADLINE   Due to the New Year’s holiday, the deadline for the January 3rd bulletin will be Monday, December 21st.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

LITURGY OF THE HOURS       This Advent, as you wait in joyful hope, prepare your heart by participating in the Evening Prayer Service each day in church at  5:30pm  from December 17th through December 23rd.  Join us to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, Evening Prayer with the O Antiphons.  Come for one, all, or as many prayer services as you can.

JESSE TREE      A huge thank you to all who participated in the Jesse Tree project this year.  Our parish is always so generous and this year was no exception. I am certain we brightened the Christmas season for many in our area.  The following local agencies were helped by our gifts: Fort Thomas VA Hospital, Madonna House, Catholic Charities, Birthright, CareNet of NKY, Women's Crisis Center and Glenmary Mission of Vanceburg , KY.  Again, thank you for your support and a special thank you to all the volunteers who helped me to separate, load and drop off gifts.  I could not do my job with out your help!  Wishing a Blessed Christmas to all,   Molly Fassler.

MEN'S GROUP MEETING AND BURNING OF THE GREENS   Save the trees! (So we can burn them.) In place of our regular Monday meeting in January, the Men's Group will be gathering in the Church parking lot on Sunday, January 3, at 7:00 pm to drive around town saving Christmas trees from death in a Rumpke truck. We need guys with trucks or trailers and we need other guys to ride shotgun. After saving the trees, we'll gather for refreshments and snacks in McCrystal Hall. If anyone in the Parish needs a tree picked up that night, please call Dave Barth (441-0194) or Jon Guth (441-1160).

ST. BERNARD’S PANTRY     Thanks to all who have been supporting our collections for St. Bernard’s pantry.  This month’s items are boxes of Jello mix and packaged cookies.

SCHEDULES AVAILABLE    If you are a server or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion,  please pick up your new schedule in the back of church by the Rossford exit.

HOMILIES ON CD   The new homily reflection cd’s are available in the back of church.  They feature the homilies from the last few weeks of ordinary time.

ST. CATHERINE JUNIOR HIGH PLAY    Tickets are on sale for the Junior High production of Annie, Jr.   Performance dates are January 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, and 23rd.  Cost for show is $5.00.  For tickets call Jennie Cox at 441-4322 or Dottie Hartman at 292-0423.

CALLING ALL PARISHIONERS!!  Help create the St. Catherine of Siena Parish Wall.  A magnificent, one of a kind tile wall, composed of individually painted tiles will be created, but not without you!  Becoming part of this special project and St. Catherine history is easy. Just purchase a voucher anytime between now and our annual Love Boat Fundraiser on February 6, 2010 .  Look for our display after select masses and St. Catherine events, or visit the parish website.  Two options are available – a $50.00 you paint it tile (designs unlimited) or a $75.00 we paint it tile (3 designs available). A date will then be selected in late February for all participants to come and paint their part of history.  Several artists and creative-minded individuals will be on hand to assist you.  So make your mark - celebrate a baptism, birthday, or wedding, memorialize a loved one, or give as a Christmas gift! Visit the St. Catherine website for all details or call Robin Lindeman  781-6255 or Diane Kroger 441-2243 with questions.

THE GREAT ESCAPE   Christ Renews His Parish Women's Retreat (CRHP) will take place February 20 - 21, 2010 . The women of CRHP #4 cordially invite all interested women in joining us for a weekend of spiritual growth and renewal.  CRHP is a wonderful opportunity to experience personal growth and to develop faith-filled relationships with other women of St Catherine's Parish.  If you are interested in attending or getting more information, please contact Helen Brune at 781-2869 or helen.brune@insightbb.com.

SCRIP UPDATE   Thanks to all those who continue to support the Scrip program.  We still have gift cards left for any last minute Christmas presents you may need!!  Also, keep reloading your Kroger cards. We received a check from them for $824 from last month’s reloads so those trips to the grocery result in a big benefit for the parish!

RELIGIOUS GIVE THANKS    Thank you to all who contributed to the special collection for Retired Religious.  Of the support offered by this appeal, one religious writes, “We deeply appreciate this assistance. God’s loving care touches us through the hearts of thousands of Catholics who give so generously to this collection year after year.”  Women and men religious throughout the country send their abundant thanks for your donation.
