IN OUR PARISH

ST CATHERINE MEN'S GROUP   All men of the parish 21 and older are invited to our next meeting on Monday, October 5th at 8:00 pm in McCrystal Hall. We'll be working on final plans for our 6th Annual Women's Dinner on Saturday, November 14 (more information to follow). There's no speaker this meeting, but maybe we can convince our former President-for-Life Jon Guth to inspire us with a little music to go along with the refreshments, snacks, split-the-pot, and camaraderie.

THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY    is October 7th, which is Wednesday of this week.  To celebrate it, we will pray the mysteries throughout the day.  At 8:00 a.m. , Fr. Bob will lead the Joyful Mysteries.  The school children will lead us in the Sorrowful Mysteries at 2:10 p.m.   Finally, the rosary prayer group will lead us in the Glorious Mysteries immediately following 6:30 p.m. mass.  All rosaries will be prayed in church.

PARISH FEST 2009     Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 18th, the date for this year’s Parish Fest.  We will meet in the lower parking lot beginning at 4:00 p.m. and serve dinner at approximately 4:30 p.m.   This is a great chance to socialize with fellow parishioners, so make plans to attend!  More information will follow in future bulletins.

HOMILIES ON CD      Fr. Stef’s September homilies are now available on CD in the back of church.

ATTENTION ALL LECTORS    The new lector workbooks are available for pick up in the sacristy.

TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM   The institution of tuition for the current school year comes with the need to assist those families who wish to continue sending their children to St. Catherine but can't financially afford to do so.  We would never want to deny a Catholic Education to any parishioner due to finances.  Therefore, we have established a tuition assistance fund which is now accepting restricted donations for the specific purpose of providing the assistance needed.  As of today, we have awarded $18,470 in assistance with more applications pending.  Thank you to those who have already donated to the fund.  If you would like to make a contribution to the "Tuition Assistance" fund, please contact Mary Brzinski in the parish office.  Thank you.

YOUR LEFT OVER PAINT IS NEEDED!  Throughout the year, we use paint for the Jr High Play set and Love Boat decorations.  Our paint supply is very thin.  If you have left over paint from the last time you painted a room in your house, we’d love to have it.  Latex is the preferred paint since the children/students actually help paint. You can bring it to the school during school hours. Questions, call Tom Kaelin 859-630-3217.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT      Thanks to all those who contributed to our Collection for the St. Bernard Pantry. Our parish generously donated over 125 bottles of syrup and over 125 boxes of pancake mix!  The collection items for October are boxes of instant stuffing and canned sweet potatoes, in preparation for Thanksgiving.  These donations will be taken to the pantry at the end of the month.  One of the corporal works of mercy is “to feed the hungry”.  With your help, we are able to do just that.

IN OUR DIOCESE

17TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL WEEK OF PRAYER & FASTING  October 4-12, 2009 The IWPF is an international movement of Catholic and Christian persons and organizations mobilized to pray and fast in October, imploring God’s mercy. The goals of the week are: the conversion of nations, an end to abortion and to build a culture of life globally.  We are asked to participate as individuals, families, and parishes by offering the following: fasting, daily masses, prayer to include Holy Hours, rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets and Confession.  Pope John Paul ll gave the movement two apostolic blessings and Blessed Mother Teresa was a supporter of the “week”.  Don’t let it go by unnoticed in your home.  Our country needs prayer now!

A PUBLIC SQUARE ROSARY RALLY   will be held again this year at St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring from 10:45-12 noon on Sat. Oct. 10th.   The Rosary commemorates the 92nd anniversary of the Oct.13, 1918 Miracle of the Sun in Fatima , Portugal .  The rosary, song, litany and prayers are prayed publicly in front of the church along US 27 in reparation for the grave sins of our country and to invoke the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on our nation. Some chairs will be available.

PRO- LIFE MASS   The Pro-Life committee comes together as a Diocese at the annual Diocesan Pro-Life mass on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica.  The Bishop will celebrate Mass with many of our Diocesan priests, calling all to proclaim the Gospel of Life.  The rosary will be prayed at 6:15 p.m. and the homilist for the Mass will be Fr. Rick Wurth.  A reception will be held following mass in Howard Hall where community resources in support of life will be on display.  If you are interested in attending the Mass and the reception for a short time, St. Catherine will have a bus available to take people and bring them back.  The bus will leave promptly at 6:15 p.m. from the St. Catherine parking lot. We will stay at the reception for 30 minutes before returning to St. Catherine.  Seating is limited, so if you would like to reserve a seat, please call the parish office at 441-1352.
