IN OUR PARISH

WE WELCOME   to our parish family through baptism: Jordyn Beverly Reckers, daughter of Eric and Angie.  May she always know God’s blessings.

PARISH FEST 2009     Will be held today, Sunday, October 18th, in the lower parking lot beginning at 4:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at approximately 4:30 p.m.   This is a great chance to socialize with fellow parishioners, so be sure to stop by! In case of inclement weather, we will meet in the Parish Center .

HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES   through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Monday-Wednesday, October 19th, 20th, & 21st.    Assistance is needed in transporting families in the IHN van to and from Christ Church and the Day Center in Newport, preparing a meal, hosting a meal and spending the night. This is a great way for families and individuals to work together in service. New volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers so don’t let inexperience keep you from answering the call. Call Mindy Hoarston at 547-8415 for additional information or see the sign-up posters at the Rossford Avenue exit of church.

PARISH NIGHT BEGINS AGAIN   Responding to input gathered from our parishioners at our last Parish Night Gathering, our Parish Night Program will begin again with a new format.  We will have one central theme - The Year of the Priest.  We will be reading and reviewing together the book, Sharing Christ’s Priesthood by Mike Aquilina.  The book will be made available for the cost of $8 through the Parish Office beginning next week.  Our first Wednesday to meet will be October 28th.   Going forward, our Parish Night Program is designed to meet once a month for open discussion on the book and once a month with a different program but still focusing on our theme.  The complete Parish Night Program agenda will be made available by October 28.  We’re looking forward to a great year of Parish Night activities and we hope to see you there.

PAPA JOHN PIZZA    will be having a “St. Catherine Night” on Wednesday, October 21st. They will donate 20% of our orders back to St. Catherine.  You can pick up a pizza for dinner and still have plenty of time to get to 6:30 mass! Just be sure to mention St. Catherine when placing your order.

COOKIES & STORIES AND GAME NIGHT   On Friday, October 30th from 6:30-8:00 , the St. Catherine Catholic Order of Foresters are sponsoring two fun-filled events for children of the parish in grades K-5.  Cookies & Stories will be held in the Library for children in grades K-2 (they can wear their favorite pajamas and bring a cozy blanket) and enjoy some Halloween/Fall stories.  Game Night will be held in the 2nd grade classroom for children in grades 3-5.   Children are welcome to bring their favorite board or card games to share with their friends.   Hope you can join us!!!

ST. CATHERINE MEN’S RETREAT   is being held at Marydale, November 6th - 8th.  It will begin Friday night about 6:00 p.m. and end no later than 1:00 p.m. Sunday.   The retreat leader is Fr. Stef and the theme for the weekend is “Praying with Parables”.  Cost is $125.00.  For more information or to make reservations, call Brian Cox @ 441-4322; Bob Hassman @ 653-6014 or Barry Henry @
781-1815.

ST. BERNARD FOOD PANTRY   The collection items for October are boxes of instant stuffing and canned sweet potatoes, in preparation for Thanksgiving.  These donations will be taken to the pantry at the end of the month.  One of the corporal works of mercy is “to feed the hungry”.  With your help, we are able to do just that.

DON ’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD CELL PHONES?  "I Am 2013" is a group of current Freshman at NCC and HHS working together on community outreach.  Our current project is collecting Cell Phones for Soldiers.  These old cell phones are recycled and in return, minutes are given to our soldiers in Iraq and Afganastan.  We will be heading out for a door to door campaign on Sunday Oct 18th from 5-7pm .  Cell phones may also be dropped off at St. Catherine of Siena church office.  Questions call Tammy Schroder 781-2412.

IN OUR DIOCES

PRO- LIFE FACTS     Many women who have walked a path of grief and hopelessness after abortion, usually alone, eventually begin to understand that they have a deep spiritual wound. But sadly, they also are likely to believe that they have committed 'the unforgivable sin' and fear God's anger. Women who have had an abortion often have many questions, the answers to which are indispensable to beginning the healing journey. Can God ever forgive me? Can my child? Can I ever forgive myself? Will the Church let me stay when I confess this sin? Will this horrible pain ever go away? Is healing possible? The answer to all these questions is, of course, YES!  (from the Project Rachael web site)

“AGING SUCCESSFULLY”   A lecture by Dr. Cindy Bergeman, full professor of Psychology, will be held on Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Science Lecture Hall at Thomas More College .  Reception begins at 6:15 p.m. The purpose of this program is to explore the psychosocial and health attributes that help one overcome the risks and challenges associated with aging.  It is these factors that may serve as important resources of resilience that promote more optimal outcomes in later life. This event is sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Greater Cincinnati and the TMC James Graham Brown Honors Program and is free of charge.

HOLIDAY CRAFT BAZAAR     to be held at the home of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, 930 Highland Ave , Ft. Thomas , on Friday, October 23rd from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  There will be handmade crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, along with tasty treats form our bake sale all made by our sisters, staff and volunteers.

THE WINNERS’ CIRCLE    Newport Central Catholic’s grand event will be held on Saturday, November 7th at the Syndicate Restaurant in Newport . The evening will include a night of fun with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, live auctions, silent auctions, and dancing. The event will also feature the Thoroughbred $5000 Grand Raffle. Raffle tickets will cost $50 and only 250 tickets will be sold. Proceeds from this event will be used to enhance the already excellent Catholic education offered at NCC , by providing the best learning environment with the most up-to-date tools needed to educate our students. In addition, monies raised will benefit the NCC Education Endowment Fund. The cost is $75 per person which includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, drinks, dancing and a great night to socialize. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For reservations or more information please contact the NCC Development Office at (859) 292-0001. Reservations are due Friday, October 23rd.

FOLLOW ME    Seminarians hear the Lord say to them, “Follow me”, and courageously pursue lives of intimate union with Christ. They seek to grow in holiness, while discerning if God is truly calling them to be one of His priests. We have 16 seminarians preparing for service in our Diocese.  They are studying here in the United States and abroad.  Costs for the seminarians’ tuition, room and board, books, health care, living expenses, and retreats amount to almost $700,000.  Please carefully read the letter and brochure you will receive from Bishop Foys, and come to Mass next weekend ready to make a generous gift to the Seminarian Education Fund for 2009.
