IN OUR PARISH

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY    is extended to the family and friends of Alan Stein, who was buried from our parish last week.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA CLUB     will be meeting today, Sunday, October 11th at 12:30 in McCrystal Hall.  If you’ve always wanted to join in the fun but have never gotten around to it, stop by today and see what you’ve been missing! You’ll be glad you did!

BUS FOR PRO LIFE MASS    If you are interested in attending the Mass on Tuesday, October 13th and the reception for a short time, St. Catherine will have a bus available to take people and bring them back.  The bus will leave promptly at 6:15 p.m. from the St. Catherine parking lot. We will stay at the reception for 30 minutes before returning to St. Catherine.  Seating is limited, so if you would like to reserve a seat, please call the parish office at 441-1352.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE   Due to the Diocesan Pro-Life mass, Exposition, Benediction and Confession will be canceled on Tuesday, October 13th.

PARISH FEST 2009     Will be held next Sunday, October 18th, in the lower parking lot beginning at 4:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at approximately 4:30 p.m.  This is a great chance to socialize with fellow parishioners, so make plans to attend!  See insert for more details.

HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES   through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Monday-Wednesday, October 20th, 21st, & 22nd.   Assistance is needed in transporting families in the IHN van to and from Christ Church and the Day Center in Newport , preparing a meal, hosting a meal and spending the night. This is a great way for families and individuals to work together in service. New volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers so don’t let inexperience keep you from answering the call. Call Mindy Hoarston at 547-8415 for additional information or see the sign-up posters at the Rossford Avenue exit of church.

HOMILIES ON CD      Fr. Stef’s September homilies are now available on CD in the back of church.

ATTENTION ALL LECTORS    The new lector workbooks are available for pick up in the sacristy.

TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM   The institution of tuition for the current school year comes with the need to assist those families who wish to continue sending their children to St. Catherine but can't financially afford to do so.  We would never want to deny a Catholic Education to any parishioner due to finances.  Therefore, we have established a tuition assistance fund which is now accepting restricted donations for the specific purpose of providing the assistance needed.  As of today, we have awarded $18,470 in assistance with more applications pending.  Thank you to those who have already donated to the fund.  If you would like to make a contribution to the "Tuition Assistance" fund, please contact Mary Brzinski in the parish office.  Thank you.

YOUR LEFT OVER PAINT IS NEEDED!  Throughout the year, we use paint for the Jr High Play set and Love Boat decorations.  Our paint supply is very thin.  If you have left over paint from the last time you painted a room in your house, we’d love to have it.  Latex is the preferred paint since the children/students actually help paint. You can bring it to the school during school hours. Questions, call Tom Kaelin 859-630-3217.

ST. BERNARD FOOD PANTRY   The collection items for October are boxes of instant stuffing and canned sweet potatoes, in preparation for Thanksgiving.  These donations will be taken to the pantry at the end of the month.  One of the corporal works of mercy is “to feed the hungry”.  With your help, we are able to do just that.

USE THOSE KROGER CARDS!!   Thanks to all those who reloaded their Kroger cards last month.  Because of your efforts, we received a check from Kroger for over $800.00!  Remember to keep reloading your cards and encourage your family and friends to do the same.  Earning money for the parish doesn’t get much easier!

DON ’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR OLD CELL PHONES?  "I Am 2013" is a group of current Freshman at NCC and HHS working together on community outreach.  Our current project is collecting Cell Phones for Soldiers.  These old cell phones are recycled and in return, minutes are given to our soldiers in Iraq and Afganastan.  We will be heading out for a door to door campaign on Sunday Oct 18 from 5-7pm .  Cell phones may also be dropped off at St. Catherine of Siena church office.  Questions call Tammy Schroder 781-2412.

IN OUR DIOCESE

PRO- LIFE MASS   The Pro-Life committee comes together as a Diocese at the annual Diocesan Pro-Life mass on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica.  The Bishop will celebrate Mass with many of our Diocesan priests, calling all to proclaim the Gospel of Life.  The rosary will be prayed at 6:15 p.m. and the homilist for the Mass will be Fr. Rick Wurth.  A reception will be held following mass in Howard Hall where community resources in support of life will be on display.

PRO- LIFE FACTS     Myth: There is no difference between Natural Family Planning (NFP) and artificial methods of contraception. Reality: NFP methods are different from and better than artificial contraception because: They cooperate with, rather than suppress, a couple's fertility; Can be used both to achieve and avoid pregnancy; Call for shared responsibility and cooperation by husband and wife; Require spousal communication; Foster respect for and acceptance of the total person; Have no harmful side effects; Are virtually cost free.  NFP is unique because it enables its users to work with the body rather than against it. Fertility is viewed as a reality to live, not a problem to be solved.

THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY    will be collecting donated goods (furniture, household items, appliances, clothing, shoes, toys, non-perishable food, personal care items, etc.) in the St Joseph Church   (Cold Spring) parking lot on Saturday, Oct 31st ( 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ) and Sunday, Nov 1st ( 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM ).  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
