IN OUR PARISH

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS OF THE PARISH   This past May, the Board of Catholic Education

(BOCE) sent out a letter to school families informing them of costs to educate students at St. Catherine

School.  As many of you are aware, the current financial situation at our parish is reflective of the

current state of our economy.  Offertory collections have continued to decline over the past few years as

costs to operate the parish and fund our various ministries have increased. As a result, our school, which

is the largest ministry of the parish, and its funding resources have been carefully monitored over the

past several years.  As the Board of Education and the Finance Committee begin working on the annual

budgeting process, there is once again the necessity to evaluate instituting a tuition program to sustain

the operations of the school. We invite you to join us for a presentation on this Wednesday, January

7th, after mass to review the information that we have collected in order to make a decision on the

financial future of our school.

GREETERS NEEDED!   If you are interested in becoming a greeter, please call Paul & Ann Basham

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CHAIRS NEEDED      We are in need of one or two people to chair the 2009 Vacation Bible School .   VBS is a week-long adventure for the children of the parish in which they learn about and grow closer to Jesus.  If you think you would like to be part of this ministry, please contact Jamie Hochleutner at 781-0855.

ALL WOMEN OF THE PARISH    If you are 18 years old or over, you are invited to our parish retreat on Feb 20 - 22 at Marydale Retreat Center .  We will be led by Fr. Charlie Smiech, O.F.M.  His theme will be "The Great Diversity of Christian Spirituality."  He will talk about the many different ways of praying within the Catholic tradition focusing on the Holy Spirit who draws us to a deeper union with God.  The men of our parish have had him as a director in the past and speak very highly of him.  Please send your $25 deposit to Pat Brennan (781-2711) or Jennie Cox (441-4322); an additional suggested donation of $90 is requested by Marydale at the time of the retreat.  Come and grow in faith with your parishoners.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION       St. Catherine School collects Box Tops for Education which appear on most General Mills, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Go-Gurt, Trix Yogurt and Zip Loc products, just to name a few.  For a complete list of products, please visit www.boxtops4education.com.  The school receives 10 cents for each box top - these really add up!  These can be turned into the school office, or you may drop them off in the box at the Rossford Avenue church entrance.

AN INVITATION     If you’re confined to home and unable to attend Mass (even if it’s just temporary), please call St. Catherine Parish Office (441-1352) if you’d like to receive Holy Communion in your home.  One of our Parish Ministries – Outreach to the Homebound – is waiting to bring the Eucharist to you or a family member, or even your neighbor.  We know that this is a need waiting to be filled, but we must first hear from you.  So please accept this invitation and allow us to share the Living Bread – the Body of Jesus with you.
