WE WELCOME     to our parish family through baptism:  Orion Charles Scully, son of D.J. and Chelsea Scully; and Sydney Paige and Gwen Alea Houlihan, daughters of Greg and Kelly.  May the Lord bless their lives with love, health and happiness.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY     is extended to the family and friends of Edna Schultz who passed away last week.  Please remember Edna and her family in your prayers.

PARISH FAMILIES, MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THIS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd!  This will be the first meeting in our upcoming weekly Wednesday evening Parish Night.  The evening will begin with Mass at 6:30 p.m. , followed by an overview of the program by Fr. Stef in the church.  We will end with a spaghetti dinner sponsored by the Foresters in McCrystal Hall.  We’ve made Wednesday a free night in the parish; hopefully you’ve been able to free it up in your families.  Come, join us.

CHOIR NEWS    The adult choir will begin rehearsals Thursday, September 4th at 7:30pm .  Everyone is welcome to join. The children's choir will begin Friday, September 5th.   Children in grades 2-5 will rehearse on the 1st and 3rd Fridays.  Youth in grades 6-8 will rehearse on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. THE FIRST DAY OF CCD IS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th at 10:15am for both parents and students!  If you have not registered your children in grades 1 - 12, please download the form and information sheet from the parish website at www.stcatherineofsiena.org - 'Church', then 'CCD'.  These should be returned to the parish office to the attention of David Kohrs.  There is an additional $10/child fee for registration at this time.  Contact David Kohrs, CCD Coordinator, for further details at kohrssd@fuse.net

PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS POLICY    students make their immediate preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist in the second grade class, and their immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the eighth grade class. All of the grades, 1-12 are important and necessary for the remote preparation for the sacraments and a fuller understanding of the Catholic Christian Faith. It is for this reason that the St. Catherine Board of Catholic Education has set policies establishing requirements for the preparation for the sacraments. To comply with these policies, any child wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation must attend all grades of religious education training prior to the year of the receipt of the sacrament.

ATTENTION MEN & WOMEN OF ST. CATHERINE!   Familia teams are forming now for the Fall.  What is Familia?  Familia offers a variety of parish programs that strengthen families by helping men and women live their vocation to marriage and parenthood in all its fullness.  Through dynamic group discussion on relevant topics, participants discover the message of authentic love in their vocation to marriage and through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Programs for Fathers, Mothers and Couples are available. To learn more about Familia or to join a team, please contact: Maria Bozeman at mariabozeman@hotmail.com.

WHAT IS RCIA?   The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental formation process that prepares a person to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Conversion is at the heart of the process.  The initiation of new members can only take place within the context of a community of believers.  The initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized.    How Can Parish Members Become Involved in the RCIA Process?  One of the most essential parts of the formation process is the identification of candidates.  This is one instance where members of our faith community play a vital role.  Is there someone in your life who has expressed an interest in knowing more about our faith?  Do you have a spouse, neighbor, co-worker, or anyone who has spoken with you about this subject?  Ninety percent of our candidates come from referrals of parish members.  If you have someone in your life that would like to consider the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please call or have the potential candidate call the parish office (441-1352), Jeff Rosenstiel (803-3434), or Paul Meisenhelder (491-9455).  The RCIA classes begin on Thursday, September 18th, at 7:00 p.m. in the room next to the school library.  Please reach out to potential candidates and encourage them to make the call or volunteer to do so for them.

FOUND IN CHURCH    A class ring from 1934 was found in church a few weeks ago.  If it belongs to you or someone you know, please contact the parish office.  Also, several pairs of glasses have been found in church over the past several months.  If you have lost a pair, please check in the box at the Rossford exit.

2008 DOMESTIC NEEDS COMBINED COLLECTION     Did you know that 37 million Americans live in poverty?  That’s more than the total population of California .  Did you know that 45% of all Arch/Dioceses in the United States are unable to provide ministries to their people without outside assistance?  Did you know that 90% of Thomas More College students receive financial aid?  Today’s second collection supports the work of 6 separate Catholic appeals whose combined ministries offer financial aid to college students, provide job training for men and women trying to break free from the cycle of poverty, keep church doors open in remote areas where Catholic institutions are few in number, offer evangelization programs in Africa and Native American and Eskimo communities, and bring the Good News to television, radio, and newspaper audiences.  Please give to the Diocesan Domestic needs Collection.  Your prayers and generosity will help your brothers and sisters throughout the United States .  Remember your one gift supports 6 collections.
