IN OUR PARISH

OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY   goes out to the family and friends of Ray Duff, who was buried from our parish this past week.  Ray was a

long-time, active parishioner of St. Catherine and she will be deeply missed.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

PARISH JESSE TREE PROJECT   Today (Sunday) is the last day to bring in your items for the Jesse Tree.  Please have your gifts in the back of church by 12:30 .  If for some reason, you aren’t able to do this, please contact Molly Fassler at 442-9150.

ATTENTION EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION   If you are scheduled to minister at a mass, please go up immediately after the sign of peace.  By doing this, the mass flows more smoothly and there is less confusion about whether or not there are enough ministers.

CHANGE IN BULLETIN DEADLINE      Due to the upcoming holidays, any submissions for the December 28th bulletin must be in the office by Wednesday, December 17th.  Also, the deadline for the January 4th bulletin will be Monday, December 22nd.   Thank you for your attention to this matter.

NO PLANS FOR THIS AFTERNOON?   Then grab your friends, invite your neighbors, shuffle your cards and join the St. Catherine Siena Club at 12:30 p.m. in McCrystal Hall.  Make some new friends, reconnect with old friends, enjoy good food and have a great time!

ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE    will be held this Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to come together as a parish and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for Christmas.   Because of this service, confession will not be held at 5:30 , benediction will be at 6:00 p.m. and the rosary prayer service is canceled.

LOOKING FOR AN EASIER WAY TO FULFILL YOUR OFFERTORY COMMITMENT? Having a hard time remembering to bring your donation each Sunday? Want to give back to God from your surplus instead of your leftovers? EFT may be the answer to your dilemma. Your offertory commitment may be fulfilled by having a monthly withdrawal from your checking account through  Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). The withdrawal can take place either on the 15th or the 30th of the month.  IN OUR DIOCESE

2008 RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS    Advent is a time to reflect upon how well we give birth to Christ in our world each and every day, and how well we plant the seeds of faith, hope and love that help us feel God’s presence.  Today we honor those men and women who have devoted their lives to spreading God’s hope and love and have been instruments of His saving grace.  Religious order sisters, brothers, and priests have long been beacons of hope in our Church.  The Church would be greatly impoverished without their witness.  This is the fundamental irony of today’s Collection – that these men and women who have given so generously to enrich the lives of others are now so in need themselves.  They need your help.  Almost 38,000 women and men religious are now past the age of 70 and greatly outnumber those members of their community who are younger.  Costs associated with their daily living and health care are the obligations of their religious communities.  Over 19,000 communities have less that 20% of the dollars needed to provide for their aged members.  Please give generously in gratitude and love to the Retired Religious Collection.

ST. THOMAS EUCHARISTIC EXPOSITION AND ADORATION       St. Thomas Parish offers perpetual adoration and there are hours that need to be covered:  Tuesday - 4:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Friday 3:00 p.m.    If you are interested in signing up for a time, please call 441-1282.

ST. CECILIA SCHOOL IN INDEPENDENCE IS LOOKING FOR ALUMNI   If you or someone you know is a St. Cecilia Alumni, we’re looking for you!  Please contact Karen Schultz at bkschultz@insightbb.com or Jamie Lameier ( Meier 85’) at kaljlm@fuse.net.

ELSEWHERE

YOUR MOST IMPORTANT WORK MAY NOT BEGIN UNITL AFTER YOU RETIRE   The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) is an opportunity for women and men in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s to offer their talents, skills, wisdom, and life experience in direct service to the needs of people who are poor.  In return for a commitment of 16 hours a week for a year (September – July) with a local service site, the IVC provides guidance for personal reflections and prayerful conversation with fellow IVC volunteers.  Together we hope to see the face of Christ a little more clearly and contribute to the transformation of the world.  The benefits are priceless!  For additional information please call the Cincinnati IVC Director, Sam Schloemer at (513)608-5551 or email at sschloemer@ivcusa.org.  You can also visit our website at IVC@ivcusa.org.
