      IN OUR PARISH

MISSION APPEAL    This weekend at all masses we have the pleasure of welcoming Rev. Dante Mejillano SSS of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament to our parish.  He comes to St. Catherine as part of the Missionary Co-operative Plan that takes place each year in all of the (Arch)Dioceses of our country.  The Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament does evangelization work in much of Asia, especially Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines as well as in the Congo and Uganda in Africa. There will be a second collection taken to support these efforts. 

ICE CREAM SOCIAL    sponsored by the Foresters will be held today, (Sunday), after the 11:30 Mass  in McCrystal Hall. All are welcome to come. If you attend another mass this weekend, come back about 12:30 and join in the fun!

RECEPTION FOR BOB ROTTGERS     will be held in McCrystal Hall on Sunday, August 12th after the 11:30 a.m. mass.  The reception will be a celebration of Bob’s candidacy to the priesthood and a send-off as he will be returning to Mundelein on August 17th.  Please stop by to congratulate, say good-bye and thank Bob for all he has done for this parish in the last several months. 

SPECIAL ROSARY PRAYER SERVICE   As many of you know, parishioner Kurt Fields recently underwent surgery for kidney cancer.  Thankfully, the surgery went well and Kurt's prognosis is very good. Next Wednesday, August 1st at 8:00 p.m. in church, the rosary will be said to give thanks and to pray for Kurt's continued recovery.  If you are unable to attend the rosary service, please remember to keep Kurt and his family in your prayers.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MEETING   Committee chair and class leader meeting will be held Thursday, August 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Library.  Please call Patty Chalk, 441-0560 or Heather Stuempel, 781-6122 to let us know if you will be able to make it.  Thank you! 

TEEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED    Vacation Bible School, August 6th -10th, is in need of volunteers from 7th-12th grade.  This is a great way to earn service hours.  If you are able to help out, please call Heather Stuempel at 781-6122 or Patty Chalk at 441-0560.

FORESTER DAY AT CONEY ISLAND   will be on Sunday, August 19th.  The day will include admission to all rides, swimming at Sunlite Pool, free soft drinks and ice cream.  Admission tickets are normally $15.50, but with the State Court helping out tickets will be $8.00 for all Forester members, and parking tickets are $5.00. 25TH AND 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS     for the diocese will be held on Sunday, September 16th.  If you are celebrating you 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 and would like to receive an invitation to this special mass, please call the parish office at 441-1352 by Wednesday, August 1st.  Contacting the office is not a reservation it will just put you on the list to receive an invitation from the diocese. 

FAMILIES WITH INCOMING FIRST GRADERS   Parish families with children entering the first grade of the public school system for 2007 - 2008 should register those children for the CCD program as soon as possible.  Information and registration forms may be downloaded from the parish website.  Questions should be directed to David Kohrs at kohrssd@fuse.net or 441-1069. 

CAFETERIA WORKERS NEEDED   Anyone interested in working in the Cafeteria this coming school year, please call Judy Leick at 781-3890.  Report time is 10:45 and depending on whether you stay for lunch you can be finished by 12:30.  The kids love seeing a familiar face, (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle) during lunch so if interested give me a call.  You only have to work once a month.

IN OUR DIOCESE

VOLUNTEER NEEDED    The Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Ft. Thomas are looking for someone to provide companionship to one of our Sisters. You will be accompanying her on short walks inside and outside the facility and assisting her with AOL emails.  It would be twice a week for one hour. Computer knowledge and experience using a laptop is helpful but not required.  We are looking for someone with a pleasing personality, lots of patience and must be flexible.  If interested, please call Barb Barker, volunteer coordinator at 441-5531 during regular business hours. 

INAUGURAL 5K RUN/WALK   sponsored by St Joseph, Cold Spring on Saturday August 4th beginning at 9:15 a.m. Pre-registration $20 includes a Dry Release T-shirt. NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC    will host its 24th Annual Alumni Thoroughbred Cross Country 2-Mile Run on Saturday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. on the school’s campus.  The run is open to all alumni and their spouses.  You need not have been a cross-country runner to enter.  A "FunRun" for kids will be held at 9:30 a.m. with all participants receiving ribbons.  The run will be followed by lunch.  A medal ceremony will also be held for the top seven finishers.  For more information, contact Dave Ueding at 292-0001. 

ST. IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS   CareNet Pregnancy Services of Northern Kentucky seeking volunteers to help young pregnant women who enter their centers seeking counsel for an unplanned pregnancy. Won't you consider being the hands and feet of Christ in this community by ministering to those facing the fear of an unplanned pregnancy? EUCHARISTIC MINISTER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM   at the St. Luke Hospitals is need of volunteers to serve either on an ongoing basis or on their substitute list.  Receiving the Eucharist while in the hospital can be a great source of comfort to patients.  Becoming a Eucharistic Minister is very easy and requires minimal training.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Angela Campbell at 572-3207.
