IN OUR PARISH
COMMUNITY
PENANCE How are we doing
with our communal penance of watching our speech?
As a help I thought I would share this with you, from Psalm 141.
It is a little prayer that I pray periodically throughout the day,
whenever I feel a temptation to gossip, or find myself speaking about someone in
a way that I shouldn’t. “O
Lord, set a watch before my mouth, a guard at the door of my lips.”
I hope your Lent is going well.
Fr. Stef
THANK
YOU The
guest families, staff and board of trustees of Interfaith Hospitality Network
wish to thank the members of St. Catherine for the recent contribution to their
ministry. Families are the fastest
growing segment of the homeless population and most of the guests at IHN are
children under the age of 10. Your
generosity is very much appreciated.
EXPOSITION
OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT During
Lent, the time of exposition has been extended until 8:30 p.m.
Reconciliation will be from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and benediction will
be at 8:30 p.m. The extended hours
will be in effect through March 27th.
On April 3rd, exposition will be cancelled, due to the Chrism
mass being held at the Cathedral.
LENTEN
SERIES SPEAKER Remember
Mass this Wednesday, March 14th is at 7:00 p.m., followed by
another installment of our Lenten Series. Our
presenter this week will be Fr. Gerry Reinersman, pastor of St. John the
Evangelist parish in Carrollton and Transfiguration Mission in Perry Park.
Fr. Reinersman will be speaking about
“The Mass: What We Bring, What We Take Away”. Please join us.
THE
LENTEN LECTURE SERIES
is available on CD. The first two programs from the Lenten Lecture Series are
available on CD and can be picked up at the Parish office. The CD includes
"Ash Wednesday - The Doorway to Lent" by Fr. Stef Bankemper and the
"Baptism and Lent" by Bob Rottgers.
ATTENTION
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND SERVERS
New schedules are completed and may be picked up in the
usher’s room.
LENTEN
SERVICE PROJECT The
grocery bags for the Lenten Project are on the shelf in the back of church. Take
a bag, fill it with the items on the list, and return it before Good Friday
morning. Take 2 bags if you feel generous in this season. We will
distribute the bags to the local agencies on Good Friday like usual. Details to
follow in future bulletins.
BLESSING OF PREGNANT WOMEN
In my talk after Ash Wednesday Mass, I spoke about sacramentals.
Among all the sacramentals, blessings hold a privileged place. From time to time we celebrate certain blessings, for
instance, of pets around the feast of St. Francis.
On Sunday, 18 March, at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, we will
celebrate a Blessing of Mothers before Childbirth. If you are an expectant mother and would like this blessing,
please contact the office and join us at this Mass.
A PRIEST’S PERSONAL JOURNEY THROUGH SUFFERING Join us on Palm Sunday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m. at St. Catherine as Fr. William Fitzgerald shares how he made sense out of suffering when he was burned over 24% of his body and was hospitalized for 4 months. This is for anyone who is dealing with or has dealt with suffering. It will be an inspiring evening. Questions call Terri 441-3438 or Sharon 441-1069.

CHRIST’S
RADIANT LOVE IS THE ONLY LIGHT
To be
baptized in the name of Christ is to be called to help spread the Good News of
Jesus Christ from our hearts and homes across the world to the 38 million people
starving in south and east Africa to Brazil where 24 million of your brothers
and sisters live in abject poverty and to India where100 million children are
forced into slave labor. When you
give to our Diocesan International Mission Needs Collection next weekend, you
will support the work of missionaries throughout the world.
Your gift will distribute food, clothing, and medicine.
It will build churches, schools and homes.
It will teach God’s word, farming techniques, and parenting skills. It will fight hunger, poverty, persecution, ignorance and
disease. Please give generously to
fund the ministries of the Church in Latin America, the Church in Central and
Eastern Europe, the Holy Land Collection, Catholic Relief Services and the
Pontifical Missionary Societies.
