SUNDAY’S READINGS

IN OUR PARISH
“She
will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because
he will save his people from their sins.”
The Gospel of Matthew gives us this beautiful sentence, spoken to Joseph by “the angel of the Lord.” Something new strikes me this year: everything about Jesus, everything he did or said, was for our salvation. Even his name was for us. “Jesus” comes ultimately from the Hebrew and Aramaic “yeshua”, which means “Yahweh is salvation”, or “Yahweh saves”. Even Jesus’ name is intended to remind us that God wants and intends one thing above all – our salvation. God wants us with God in everlasting happiness. There is no greater gift than that. Of course, the best part for us is that God not only always wills our salvation, but God can give it as well. I cannot give you salvation, but this Christmas day, as I celebrate Mass with you, I recommit myself to trying to the best of my ability that all my actions and words and decisions will be directed ultimately to this same thing, that you will be helped along to your salvation.
May Christmas Eve and Christmas Day be beautiful days for you, and may the season be peaceful, healthful, and bring you closer to Christ. Merry Christmas. Fr. Stef
BLESSINGS TO ALL THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON We would like to take this opportunity not only to wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas, but also to thank you for being the wonderful parish you are. It’s such a pleasure to be able to serve God and His people everyday here at St. Catherine. May you enjoy all the blessings God has for you this Christmas!
The Parish
Office Staff – Mary, Teresa & Tara
We would like to offer the parish an opportunity to tithe in a new way. Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) is a new trend that could make your life a little simpler. EFT would cost you and the parish nothing. If you would like to know more about this process or are interested in beginning to tithe in this manner, please contact Mary Brzinski at 441-1352 or email mbrzinski@stcatherineofsiena.org.
USE OF THE LIBRARY (PARISH CENTER) MEETING ROOM
If you and/or your organization use the
library meeting room, keep in mind that this room is used as a classroom during
the school day. Please be sure that
it is left in the same condition as it was found.
There should not be any food or drinks brought in and the contents of the
room (textbooks, etc) should not be disturbed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
DOUBLE YOUR GIVING
Did you know that
many companies in the area have "Matching Gift Programs" for current
employees, as well as retirees and surviving spouses of former employees?
Most companies match gifts to eligible charities or educational
institutions on a dollar for dollar basis, with annual maximum giving limits of
$5000 or more. St Catherine School is eligible for many of these programs,
so in addition to being tax deductible, your contribution's impact can be
doubled throughout the use of your employer's Matching Gifts Program. Please
check with your employer to see if you can double the impact of your giving.
ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS (Regarding purification of communion vessels) You will have noticed that the priest has been purifying the Communion vessels after Communion. This is to comply with the dictate from Rome, which states that only the priest, deacon, or someone who has received the ministry of acolyte may purify the vessels. If you are not already in the habit of doing this, it is a good time for you to meditate on what has just taken place, and on what you have received.
THE
HEALTH MINISTRIES COMMITTEE would
like to know if there are any parishioners that are in Nursing Homes or
homebound that would like to be visited or contacted by phone. We also can
provide transportation to doctor appointments and meals on a temporary basis to
those in need due to illness. We
would like to make sure that all of our parishioners’ needs, both spiritual
and physical, are being addressed. However,
we need to know who the parishioners are and how we can help.
Please contact the parish office with any information.
AN
INVITATION If
you’re confined to home and unable to attend Mass (even if it’s just
temporary), please call the parish office (441-1352) if you’d like to receive
Holy Communion in your home. One of
our Parish Ministries – Outreach to the Homebound – is waiting to bring the
Eucharist to you, a family member, or even your neighbor.
We know that this is a need waiting to be met, but we must first hear
from you. So please accept this
invitation and allow us to share the Living Bread – the Body of Jesus with
you.

GIFTS OF TIME AND TALENT NEEDED
Looking for that special way to contribute to your parish? We need a group of people to wash and iron the servers’
albs periodically. We would like to
set up a schedule similar to how the linens are done.
You can choose how often you would like to help, either every other month
or a few times a year. If you can
offer your time and talent to help with this, please call Judy Leick at
781-3890.
A BIG THANK YOU to all those who used the Scrip program for their
Christmas shopping. Now that you
know how easy it is to earn money for our parish, you’ll want to remember
Scrip for you everyday shopping needs! Thanks
again for your support!

EXPERIENCE Leave December’s turmoil behind and immerse
yourself in the sacred meaning of
Christmas. Let the room-sized, animated nativity display at the Comboni
Missionaries’ provincial home take you back to Gospel times.

the lives of local people for 60 years. Display

Center. We share a driveway with
the Anderson Township post office. Admission is free, but you may bring
donations of canned goods for the needy.
