     IN OUR PARISH

ST. CATHERINE ROSARY PRAYER GROUP   meets every Wednesday evening in the Church. We pray the Rosary for a general intention of world peace each week and for any individual intentions of those present. The service lasts between 20 to 25 minutes. All are welcome and encouraged to come and pray with us. In an effort to increase participation, the time is being changed to 8:00 p.m. This new time takes effect on Wednesday, November 8th. For More information call Paul Meisenhelder at 491-9455.

ATTENTION SIENA CLUB MEMBERS   Please remember our memorial mass on Nov. 12th at 11:30 a.m.  Meeting in McCrystal Hall immediately following mass.

LADIES OF THE PARISH   Please save the dates Feb. 23rd, 24th & 25th for the annual Women’s Retreat at Marydale.  Once again, Fr. Bill Cleves will be giving the retreat.  More details will follow.

NEW SCHEDULES   for Eucharistic Ministers and Servers are now available and can be picked up in the usher’s room.

HOMILIES ON CD    Fr. Stef's October homilies are now available and can be found in the back of church.

BELIZE TRIP   The group that went to Belize this summer will be making a presentation about their trip on November 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  They will show some pictures of their trip and talk about their experiences, followed by a short video that one of the students has made.  The parish was very supportive of their efforts, and the "Belizers" would like to share their experience with you.

WHY CAN'T WOMEN BE PRIESTS?  Have you ever struggled with this teaching of the church?  Sister Sara did.  Through a journey of meticulous research, humility, and an open heart and mind for TRUTH, she discovered the answer in the wisdom of the Church.  A gentle and educated voice to explain a very misunderstood teaching.  John Paul II appointed her to The International Commission (one of only two women ever appointed).  Don't miss this international speaker; Sunday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Catherine Church.  Classic Latin hymns by CCM graduate Heather Morrey.  Questions, call Terri at 441-3438.

SAVE A LIFE   The Pro-Life group encourages you participate in our parish's Spiritual Adoption Program.    Pledge only your daily prayer for an anonymous child in danger of abortion.  Pledge cards are available in the back of the church.  Please consider participating in this nationwide prayer effort.  For more info, please call Yolanda Mills 441-6105.

REMINDER   St. Catherine school and CCD parents, please remember to send in your donation of $20 per family for the LOVEBOAT theme baskets.  This may be turned in to your child’s school or CCD teacher.  Checks may be made payable to St. Catherine.  Thank you so much for your support of this fundraiser!

“IF CHRIST RENEWS, THEN ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IN HIM."
Christ Renews His Parish, otherwise known as "CRHP"(chirp) is making a come back.  Several years ago this program united our parish by focusing us all with a vision of a Christ-centered, spirit empowered community.  This enabled a wide cross-section of our parish members to join together to share in a recommitment to their faith, to the community of St. Catherine and to witness the goodness of Christ working within each other.  What is CRHP?  It is a spiritual renewal process, which calls together the members of the parish, in order to experience personal conversion and Christian community in their own parish.  It is successful due to the fact that it is a simple process that brings about personal rebirth and parish revitalization by focusing on Eucharist, God's Word, Reconciliation, Shared Faith & Prayer, Discipleship and Shared Ministry. The Christ Renews process begins with a Renewal Weekend.  The weekend is given by parishioners for parishioners and is open to St. Catherine’s members, ages 19-99. The weekends have been scheduled: Women: January 27th & 28th - Men: February 17th & 18th. Please prayerfully consider answering Christ’s call to participation on the upcoming weekend.  If you are interested or would like further information, please contact one of the following individuals: Sue Perkins 441-9459 , Kathy Woltermann 441-6813,  Dave Barth 441-0194, or  Tom New 781-4332

$PEND NEWS Thanks to all who faithfully buy and sell Scrips!! Our sales are down this year but we are hoping that the upcoming Christmas season will spark increased interest.  Our best  sellers are still the re-loading of Kroger and scanning of Remke cards! Thanks so much for continuing this great profit-maker for the Parish!!  We make about $1,000.00 a month from the re-loading!! The program has over 100 vendors for great gifts for Christmas and for every day use... grocery stores, department store, gas, restaurants, and home improvement!  A complete list is available in the box.  We have several new vendors...Montgomery Inn at 7% discount -$25, Hofbrauhaus at 8% -$20. $PEND is the logo and stands for ... $crips Program Earns Needed  Dollars.  Each card sold gives money back to the program. The customer gets 100% of the face value for each card, while the vendor sells the card to St. Catherine at a discount.  IN 2005 the Scrips program earned $25,000 for the parish!!!  We would appreciate it if you would get in the habit of using the cards all year long, not just at Christmas.  If there are special vendors that you would like, please give us a call or place an order and we will get it in as soon as possible.  Ordering early really helps us out!!  Thanks again!  Kathy Saalfeld (781-2802) or Gail Williams (781-6967).

THANKSGIVING GIVING   As is our custom, parishioners who attend the Thanksgiving Day liturgy can bring food and cleaning goods for St. Bernard Pantry in Dayton.  Many of the requested items are one-dish meals and canned meats, as well as laundry and dishwashing supplies. For a complete list see the November Community Circle. With winter approaching, there is a pressing need to help pay heating bills and rents to keep families from becoming homeless.  St. Catherine Parish will be assisting social service agencies such as Brighton
Center, IHN and Welcome House, in helping to pay client bills through our "Emergency Assistance Fund".  The collection taken up on at the Offertory at the Mass on Thanksgiving will be for this type of assistance.  Make checks payable to "St. Catherine." Please be as generous as you can to both of these requests.  The Community Action Committee thanks you in advance for your generosity.

COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE   will meet next Sunday, November 12 at 10:15
in the Undercroft.  All are invited to attend to discuss how the parish should address materialism and what should be done in place of an Alternative Christmas Fair.

 IN OUR DIOCESE

YOUTH 2000 IS FOR PARENTS TOO   Are you this kind of parent?  “I came to Youth 2000 because my parents made me, and I loved it.  The music was great” (boy, age 13). “My friends were going and my mom wanted me to.  I liked the Eucharistic prayer service on Saturday night. It was moving”. (girl, age 16).  Have your son or daughter invite some friends to YOUTH 2000 at Thomas More College, Nov. 17th & 19th.  They’ll never forget this weekend of faith and community.  Details at www.covingtoneucharisticretreat.com.

SEMINARIAN COLLECTION   Thank you to all who contributed to this special collection. Becoming a priest is an invitation given to some by God, a calling to tend to His people.  Your gifts will help provide for tuition, books and other needs of these men so that they will be able to continue their priestly formation, and one day serve God's Church and His people.  If you haven’t made your gift, please drop your envelope into the offertory basket today or next weekend.  Continue to pray for our seminarians, for our priests, and for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

 ELSEWHERE

NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL HOSPICE AWARENESS MONTH   and November 5th has been designated Hospice Awareness Day. St Elizabeth is currently building a freestanding in-patient Hospice facility on their South Campus. Their current unit is over-crowded and has outgrown its 8 bed capacity. The new building will house 12 beds with the potential to expand to 16. The goal of hospice is to keep patients as pain-free and as lucid as possible and surrounded by loved ones until death arrives. Such projects can only be completed if the necessary funds are raised through the benevolence of the community.
