 IN OUR PARISH

HOMILIES ON CD   Fr. Stef’s September homilies are now available on cd and can be found in the back of church.  When you are finished listening to them, please return the cd so that others may enjoy them.

PART-TIME JOB    We are looking for someone for the early hours of the morning.  Duties would be opening up the school and church buildings, turning on lights, perhaps emptying some paper bins, and being on hand if there are any situations at school that need attention (out of paper towels in the restrooms, etc.)  It would be perfect for a retired person.  Hours will probably be 7:00-ish to 10:30-ish.  Contact Mary in the office, phone 441-1352, e-mail mbrzinski@stcatherineofsiena.org.

NEEDED   1 usher for the 4:30 mass    Are you looking for a way to serve God and your Parish? We are currently in need of an usher for the 4:30 Mass.  Requirements: Must commit to being at 4:30 Mass 75% of the time. Involves taking up of collection, administrating to someone who becomes sick, attending class for CPR and use of the defibrillator if someone needs help. If interested please contact: Robert Rottgers 441-2617 or Mike Brown 781-0098

NEW MUSIC DIRECTOR   After more than twenty years of service our music director, Doug Smith, has indicated his desire to move on to other things.  He is not leaving immediately, but has asked me to find someone to fill his position.  We have begun a search for candidates.  When the time is right we will gather to thank Doug properly; in the meantime, please pray that God will send us the right person for such an important part of our staff.

COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE will meet today, Sunday, October 8th, after the
9:00 am Mass in McCrystal Hall. Everyone is invited to attend to hear about parish outreach efforts. New ideas are always welcome

ST. CATHERINE SIENA CLUB   Want to make new friends?  Learn a different card game?  Take some great trips?  Join up with the St. Catherine Siena Club on the second Sunday of each month in McCrystal Hall, 1:00 p.m.  There is a meeting today, Sunday, October 8th - hope to see you there!

LIVING ROSARY   Please help us celebrate Respect Life Month by participating in the living Rosary on Monday, October 9th at 7:00 p.m. We hope to fill the church with this moving tribute for all ages of life. Afterwards, the Foresters will sponsor a reception in McCrystal Hall.

UPCOMING PRAISE & WORSHIP SPEAKER   Robert Rogers lost his wife and four children during a flash flood in 2003.  Hear his powerful witness as he shares his remarkable testimony of hope and God’s grace through tragedy.  In his words, “God can bring beauty from ashes.  There is peace through Jesus. God is still good, all the time.” Don’t miss this compelling witness at St. Catherine next Sunday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m.  No tickets required - a free will offering will be taken.  Questions, call Terri at 441-3438 or Sharon at 441-1069.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK   needs volunteers.  St. Catherine’s next service opportunity is coming October 16,17 & 18 at Christ Church.  The sign-up poster is at the Rossford Ave exit of church. Everyone who can volunteer this rotation is encouraged to invite a friend to come along.  Once you experience this ministry to the homeless, you realize how little effort it takes to make a difference.  Any questions, call Lisa Walburg at 441-4964.

DON’T FORGET   to make your reservation for the wonderful evening offered by the Social Life Committee – A Night To Remember – Saturday, October 21st, 7:30 – 11:30 p.m. in McCrystal Hall.  There will be wine, cheese, food, and music.  Call Marcia Adkins 781-0749 or Ray Duff 441-9292.  Come to the Cabaret!

FORESTER FAMILY FUN DAY    Don’t miss the family fun day the Foresters is sponsoring on Sunday, October 22 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in the upper side parking lot. There will be food, games, face painting, pumpkin decoration, and a haunted house created by our own jr. high students. Kids can wear their costumes!  Please come and enjoy this day with family and friends.

FLU SHOTS    will be available on Saturday, October 28th & Sunday, October 29th for people ages 12 & older.  The shots are free for those with a Medicare card and $20 cash/check for all others.  The times are Saturday, after 4:30 mass until 6:15 and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Please contact Carol Gessner at 442-5280 with questions.  Sign-up sheets will be in the parish office, throughout the church, and in the school office.  It is very important you sign-up so enough of the vaccines will be available.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND SERVERS NEEDED    for the Christmas masses.  Please call Judy Leick, 781-3890, if you would like to volunteer for a particular mass.  There will be 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and midnight masses on Christmas Eve and 10:00 a.m. mass on Christmas Day.  Many volunteers are needed, otherwise individuals will be scheduled randomly.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

TO ALL THE CHILDREN ATTENDING ST. CATHERINE SCHOOL   a big “Thank You” for the beautiful handmade tree poster signed by all of you. It was very much appreciated and heartwarming.     Jim Stegman

HURRICANE RECOVERY COLLECTION   will be taken this weekend at all masses.  This collection is for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Biloxi.  In the Diocese of Biloxi, 428 of 433 church-owned properties were destroyed or seriously damaged and less than half are covered by insurance.  In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, 200,000 homes were lost, including the rectories of priests and the homes of deacons who were attempting to minister to others while they themselves were losing everything.  The Collection focuses on rebuilding and recovery - both are needed to rebuild the people’s hope.  Please give generously.

IN OUR DIOCESE

LIVING THE CALL: THE JOURNEY TO JUSTICE   offered by the Benedictine Sisters on Saturday, October 14th from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at St. Walburg Monastery in Villa Hills. Rev. ELSEWHERE

PRAYERS NEEDED  The World Apostolate of Fatima is asking for your help. On October 2, 2005 we sent an estimated 100 million prayers to heaven through a coordinated worldwide effort. This year on Sunday October 8, 2006, we again ask Catholics to pray the Rosary as we ask our non-Catholic friends to pray according to their faith for the Sanctity of Life. We hope to greatly surpass 100 million prayers on this, the largest day of organized prayer the world has ever seen. For more information go to www.bluearmy.com.

SEMINARY LIVE-IN   On October 26th – 29th, the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio and the Offices of Vocations, will host a College Live-In for young men who are juniors and seniors in high school and college students who are interested in knowing more about seminary life.  The Live-In schedule will include a tour of the campus, discussions, meals and prayer with the college seminarians, attendance at classes, time for swimming and recreation and a tour of the Columbus area.  There is no charge for the weekend.  For further information, please call the rectory at (614)985-2241.
